Going to work then home to list things on eBay. Need to keep focused. We had a no spend month in February so have been fairly relaxed with spending this month but need to get focused. Going to try and make an extra couple of hundred pounds between now and April. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. It is so motivating reading other people's diaries I will hopefully be able to make more over payments once the students come. I dont know how much I need to keep in my account for a rainy day but equally I dont want to keep money there when I am paying interst on it in my mortgage x

Your emergency fund can be anything you want - I know what you mean about having money lying around but this month for me, for example, my car fund will take a massive battering but I am SO glad I kept that £2k lying around - it means my mortgage overpayment for next month won't be at risk and I can build it up again gradually.

Same for my six month fund (I am a freelance journo) - I could wipe out 18 months of my mortgage in one hit, but I need that money as security.

When I first started here someone suggested start with between 1-3 months ... But really it is whatever you feel comfortable with

I think I will stick to 2k for the just in case account. I would hate to need it and it not be there.

Planted the next load of potatoes at the allotment today and used some good coupons for my food shop making it nearly half price. Bath and a book to soak away the digging :)

Working at home to save on fuel for the next couple of days. Going to list a few things on eBay. Just paid off the balance on our summer holiday so overpayments may just be 200 this month.

Made an overpayment of 107.06 to make the balance more even. Also worked out that the interest is about £20 a day. How depressing.

Some more details of people to stay with us as host families in the post today. Can't wait to get the first payments from that. We need to sell some of the big things in the spare room to make room for them but the money from selling will go into buying two mattresses and another single bed. Off to complete surveys :)
