Hi 5:2ers
I'm thinking of starting this. I've lost weight since having my second baby - I tend to lose in batches, the first was on the Dukan plan (which I found really hard when I tried a second time) and the second was general calorie counting. So I'm down about 4st but scarily need to lose another 3
So I had my first fast day today and was doing fine until 3.30 and I felt really wobbly. I'd had a protein drink at about 7.30 and 12 (about 120cal each) plus two cups of coffee with a splash of milk. And water.
Any tips on managing the mid-afternoon slump! I felt terrible and reached straight for the carbs (was craving crisps all day)
I'm working from home tomorrow, so might try again.Bossymoo

I find a raw carrot keeps the hunger pangs at bay, it takes ages to eat so fools your belly into thinking it's had lots, and only 25 cals I think. Or a couple of almonds, or some cherry tomatoes or strawberries. You'll probably find the first couple of weeks the hardest as you're giving your system a real shock, but once your body gets used to it, it doesn't react so badly because it knows what to expect if you see what I mean.
Maybe don't try again tomorrow but the day after and make sure you have plenty of emergency nibbles handy? I know the ideal is to fast for as long as possible, so eat twice in the day with nice long gaps in between, but you can work up to that at your own pace. Just let your body get used to the change at first - you're in it for the long haul, right? So no rush.
I'm sure adouglasmhor or tesuhoha will be along soon with better advice, they've both been doing this for a while I believe
Good luck

Evening All, first time on the thread but have 5:2'd on and off for a while, back on it (hopefully for the long run this time!).
Ive fasted today and missed my evening fast meal, bringing me in at 206 calories for the day, I assume this is ok? Never had so little calories before, usually make the most of the 500 but its too late to eat now!Sealed Pot Challenge Member 151

I have found another forum thefastdiet.co.uk which is based on the book that Michael Mosley & Mimi Spencer wrote.
It's full of support and advice and there are lots of people who are either just starting out (me) and people who have been on it for a while.
As for me, I fasted yesterday and am doing so today as well with maybe tomorrow thrown in. It's only because I am not at work so don't feel the need to eat until tea time and then it's the 500 cals of main meal, some fruit and a few water biscuits thrown in.
I weigh in on Monday mornings and found then that I had lost 4 lbs in the first week. I am not kidding myself that it will continue but as a lady with more than a few lbs to lose, its to be expected initially and they say that you lose mainly water at first (can't see how with all of the water and green tea and coffee I have been drinking!)
DueMarch - someone did ask a similar question on that other place and was told it's no problem. There are people who only have liquids on their fast days (don't think I could go to that extreme...I would miss food too much lol)0 -
3 days in a row?
Won't you go into starvation mode?
A question on exercise? If I exercise on a fast day (would only be a walk) can I add those calories on to my 500? I haven't been, but just wondered.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

It's now called Metabolic Compensation and yes, it's a very real problem despite many people claiming it's just a myth. The body will always compensate for lack of nutritional input and its metabolic rate will reduce accordingly.

No. Never include what you've burned during exercise as part of a calorie deficit.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Hi,
I started this 8 weeks ago and have so far lost 10lbs. I've had a week off when I was on holiday but trying to view this as a long term way of managing my weight. I find I can cope with the fast days by thinking well tomorrow I can .... So not feeling too deprived. However I need to lose a further 36lbs so must continue. I've lost lots of weight before with Cambridge diets but find that so restricting that as soon as I stop I start putting on weight. No complaints - Cambridge really works but I struggle with the limitations to social life so hoping this will allow me to be more 'Normal' - going for meals etc whilst continuing to lose weight slowly! Fast day tomorrow.
God luck to everyone with their diets / change in eating xx0 -

Thanks! I bought some celery. I have some light cheese triangles and will make some more of my sugar free chili jam. I used to squeeze the cheese on the celery and drizzle the chili on top. Sounds yuck but it's really niceI will try tomorrow, had a break today as you suggested.
