I've decided to give this another go. I did it this time last year and lost a stone in about three month and felt so much better in myself.

I raved about the diet to anyone who would listen. Then, one day, I fell of the wagon and put the stone back on.

Tried again in January, but it wasn't working as well as last year and I didn't lose anything. If I don't do anything about it, the weight will just creep up and up year by year.

So I'm back. First fast was Tuesday which I found quite easy. Today I'm struggling a bit, but it's doable I think.

I literally have nothing all day save for my cup of coffee when I get up.

Microwave meal with a pile of salad and peppers for dinner.

Then maybe an options before bed.

I have 16lbs to lose so that I'm at a comfortable and hopefully maintainable weight.

I'm finding that I'm quite disciplined on non-fast days, not dieting, but not indulging as I used to.

An hour's heavy gardening was usually rewarded with a glass of wine, but I don't want to open one and have it for the next two days. I had a Solero.

Third week begins tomorrow. On tea duty st U3A in the morning, so breakfast later.

    Urgh! Disappointing weigh morning!

I had a sneaky weigh yesterday, pleased. Very good day on food, with salad lunch and Mediterrean Aubergines, from the 5:2 recipe app for dinner.

Weighed this morning. Same as last week! Looking like I've put on a 1lb1/2 since yesterday!

    How can that be?

Our weight varies - if you weighed yourself every hour during the day, you will see fluctuations. If you weighed yourself three times a day for a week, you will see fluctuations.

Don't get too hung up on one reading.

I do weigh myself once a week however I do not put too much importance on it as I seem to get fluctuations week on week which don't really tie into the physical differences I can feel at the end of the week from fat loss. Sometimes I can get a small weight loss one week and then a huge one the next but for me it doesn't feel much different week in week in terms of the loss on my body and progress made.

Disappointing weigh in for me too, but my scales don't help.

The first time it seemed as though I hadn't lost anything, then lb and a half, then 10oz. And it seemed to stick with the 10oz.

Need a more reliable weighing scales.

I averaged out my calories over the week and it was 1,300 a day, so I don't think I'm overindulging, just expected more for my first week back on it (esp when my friend lost 5lb - she does SW).

It's alcohol that's probably my problem, so have decided to cut it out until Friday when I'll have a treat.

    Fast day today.

    B - Coffee - 26 calories
    D - Microwave meal - 310 calories
Courgette spagetti - 50 (it was reduced to 25p in Tesco yesterday)
    S - Options - 40.
426 in total with maybe a couple for squash and a fruit tea.

DD has told me that I'm not eating enough on non-fast days, so my metabolism s slow.

Had porridge with raspberries and blueberries for my very late breakfast.

We have the rest of the Mediterrean Aubergines for tonight.

I'm no expert on the science side of things but I would be very sceptical that your metabolism has slowed down. While technically true, as you burn less calories in food digestion on a diet day, for metabolism to slow down you would require a long term sustained calorie deficit as well as long term fat and muscle loss. It is very unlikely that your metabolism would change before significant fat and muscle loss had occurred.

As has been said, this is unlikely. The reason that the 5:2 diet works is that the one day fast period is so short that it is over before your body has time to adjust to the lower food intake.

You need to have that overall 3500 calorie deficit at the end of the week to lose a pound of fat. Upping your non-fast day consumption will just slow the process down.

I'm doing a triathlon at the weekend (), so I'm not fasting this week.
It's the first time in 2 years that I haven't fasted in a "normal" week (i.e. not on holiday) and it feels very strange :D.
