5:2 Diet (part II)

Just come back from three weeks in Australia visiting family and have put a few pounds on due to lovely food (lots of avocado with everything) and large portions. Starting back on the 5:2 today to get back on track, and looking forward to the old routine. Today might be a challenge, but once it's over, it'll be fine. Got six weeks before Ibiza so it has to be done. Off to Zumba this morning to work off some extra calories!0

Pollypenny, that is one of the best aspects of 5:2. It will help you understand how your body feels hunger, deals with it and fuels itself. It is a learning process and worth sticking with as the longer you do 5:2 the more comfortable you will become with the lifestyle.
I know. DD has been advocating it for about three years.
First day was great, even with complications. An elderly neighbour fell, we couldn't get up up, so he was taken to hospital. I was standing by to pick his wife up, so I didn't get to bed until 12.
That made me realise that we often eat from boredom. I didn't.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Today was my first day of fasting! I expected to really struggle, I sometimes feel poorly when I dont eat enough.
Today I had a cup of tea (milk and sweetener), a diet shake, a small amount of grapes and just had a small miso soup. I am having another diet shake later and a bedtime cup of tea which should take me to around 500 cal (weighed the grapes so I know the calories!). I don't think I can give up morning and bedtime tea.
I normally dont drink anywhere near enough so made a special effort to have plenty of water today. Whilst I did a LOT better than normal I think it still wasn't enough. I did find that compared to a normal day I wasn't as hungry as usual around break and lunch probably because of the extra water as I hadn't eaten anything.
I felt a little hungry most of the day but I expected to feel starving and unwell so this isn't as bad as I feared. Struggling a little more now with feeling hungry we're getting into the evening but I think I'll try to get to bed early and I've still got a shake to go.
Telling myself I can eat what I want tomorrow is helping me get through, I know eating whatever I want tomorrow isn't really what I'm supposed to do and I probably will actually be fairly sensible tomorrow but telling myself now I can have it tomorrow is helping.
I think I can do this twice a week, I think it'd be very difficult more often than that! My next day will be Mondaywill probably do Mondays and Wednesdays most weeks but will be flexible when needed. Fingers crossed I'll see results!
Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0 -
Today is my second fast day and , because I had an offer session in the college beauty salon, I had two coffees before I left, then my breakfast porridge with berries at 1pm.
I haven't felt hungry. Any 'peckish' feelings are soon banished by a glass of water. I've also felt energetic. As soon as I got home from my Welsh class, I did my ironing.
OH is now making a chilli recipe from the book.
Update: the chilli was delicious! Plenty, too.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Just had third fast day yesterday. Easy and I struggled to eat my breakfast porridge this morning.
OH made the roast veg salad with a skinless chicks portion for him.
Slight disappointment that I only lost 1.3/4 lbs, although I feel less bloated.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Pollypenny, if I remember correctly, it took a couple of weeks before the weight loss really kicked in. Just persevere, and you'll soon see results. If you're finding the fast days do able, you're on the right track.0

Hi everyone
Hope you don't mind me joining your thread. I've been doing the 5:2 since mid-March 2015 and so far have lost 4 stone 4 pounds. I have a lot to lose, but have found this diet much easier than those I've done in the past so will keep going with it.
I've been poorly with a horrendous bug and chest infection over the past 2 weeks but have still been doing my fast days, though couldn't do any exercise so doubt I'll have lost anything over that period, but you never know - my weigh-in day is a Friday.
Things that I've found while doing the diet:- it took a few weeks for me to show any weight-loss at all, which was frustrating
- if I don't drink enough fluids on fast day I get a headache the next day
- at the beginning of the diet I was getting upset stomachs (polite way of putting it!) on the day after fast days, but that settled down after the first 6 weeks or so and I haven't had that problem since
- I need to do fast days on days I'm busy so always in the week and preferably on evenings that I have something on
- the thought of a decent breakfast on the morning after my fast day really keeps me going!
So onwards and upwards (or downwards really) - look forward to seeing everyone's progress on the thread.0 -
Thanks for your posts, ibizafan and Sue.
What Michael Mosley says about eating as a habit is so true. I can't believe how I'm not ravenous, but quite comfortable on fast days.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I'm really jealous of all of you who say are not hungry during a fast day! I'm not currently doing the diet but I tried last year and the fast days I'm horribly hungry and can't think of anything but food!
I'm almost on my weight now but wouldn't mind losing 1-2 kg more for the summer so might give it another go ...0 -
I have my breakfast much later, quite easy as I often don't feel hungry first thing. We have our dinner about 7pm.
Whenever I feel peckish I'll have a glass of water, which I drink quickly. Takes the edge of it.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
