Takeiteazy – Thank you for your perspective on losing weight – great to hear from someone who has been at target for a long time. I wish people would hold back on their comments its so frustrating - just coz you’ve lost weight people seem to think they can mention your weight all the time!

Mildredd – You are your groups show pony and I am our groups – Prize pig – wheeled out every Thursday for fair day!! I completely agree with you a nod to the emotional side of losing weight – especially when you lose a lot would be nice – an acknowledgement that is all – some reference made – the odd article in the magazine – not just the “everything in the garden is rosy because you’ve lost weight approach”. Not everyone will lose weight and everything in their life is fabulous - they will feel on top of the world - that is all that I am wanting them to say. I don't care what anyone says everyone will have some negative from losing weight - be it even having to buy new clothes every two mins! Whoever writes the magazine has too much sugar on their cornflakes in the morning.
I am actually thinking of changing groups so I can go somewhere where every week I’ll not be pointed out as the person who’s lost over 6 stone and is meant to be doing handstands and cartwheels. I don’t think anyone would feel that they had to talk about the emotional side of things in image therapy but I 100 % believe that SW should acknowledge that losing a lot of weight can affect your mental health and evoke other issues etc.
My consultant is rubbish and I personally am not a big fan of Slimming World in general. At the end of the day it’s business and their plan doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel – I just hate the all sharing, all caring, tap dancing image that they project! I take what I want from it and battle on myself – I look forward to the day I can stop paying £5 per week for nothing basically. And before someone says why do you – I need the discipline of being weighed by someone else.

Oooh, Denise, I love the sound of rhubarb & ginger bars! Could you share the recipe please?

hostie, I bank syns - not always successfully, but you may have read that I'm happy with my "scenic route". I am an online member, so I'm doing my own interpretation of SW. At Slimming and Scottish Slimmers clubs you were encouraged/allowed to balance out your week to take care of over indulgent occasions. A wise person on here (can't remember who - sorry) said to make sure you use the syns you've banked and not use your credit card (weill this is an MSE forum ;) ) to use future syns. I count the syns for the week - another clever person here suggested that - and start fresh every week, ie I WI first thing on Tuesday, so I count from Tuesday to Monday. I don't carry over to the next week anything left over at the end of Monday night.

I'm doing my WI a day early this week, to sneak in before the challenge ends. It's - 3lbs for me, please, Shala. Unfortunately I didn't make my personal challenge, but 8/10 is fairly decent for me. I'm a very happy bunny.
Are we going to have another challenge? Please.

That takes me to 13st exactly - and gives me the incentive to break through that nasty stone barrier. It won't be easy as I'm out for lunch today, Wednesday and Friday. I'll look for SW friendly food, but I'll only order it if I know I will really enjoy it.

See you all later to report on my indiscretions.

    Morning everyone

Well happy mood continuing but food has gone drastically down hill! Met up with the inlaws at the weekend. Too late I remembered why I hadn't seen them for over a year:mad: Couple of bottles of wine on Saturday and one yesterday:eek: Not even going to mention food that wound its way onto my plate.

Why is it I never, ever go anywhere, do anything and since joining SW seven weeks ago I've been out two or three times a week??!!

Anyway, weekend over and done with. Today is EE -

Breakfast - toast (hexb) and banana
Lunch - ham, silverside with picked onions, gerkins, beetroot and cabbage (love my pickles!). Strawberries and nectarines
    Dinner - still to decide

Syns - as little as possible!

Away to read back and catch up with you all x

I learned over the weekend not to go out without thinking about what I might eat :(. Ended up hungry at a place that only sold paninis and nowhere else to go right then. It was a heavy syn day but at least I will be more organised in the future and make sure to take some proper food with me if I'm not sure what will be available.

Unlike the rest of the family I was with though I didn't have an icecream :)

Still, I'm only in week 1 and can't be expected to remember everything just yet! I think I've done pretty well at sticking to plan so trying hard not to weigh myself to see before tomorrow night's proper weigh in. Might be worth me hiding the bathroom scales!

Today's plan (going out again around lunchtime so making sure I've thought that through this time!)

Breakfast: Bran Flakes & Milk (B&A), Banana

Lunch: Salad with quorn fillets and new potatoes.

Dinner: Don't know yet but I've got a ton of veg in so will make something free to go with some pasta with a bit of cheese on top (A).

Snacks of fruit, alpen light bars (B), 0% yoghurt, probably also some wholemeal toast with light philli on (B&A).

Will also use an A in coffee n tea. Syns definitely 3.5 for vimto cos I can't live without! Might treat myself to a biscuit later as well :)

(I'm allowed a lot of HE foods because of breastfeeding my 4 month old, I haven't gone off plan!)

  • Top Girl I think you cope really well with all you are going through. I'm another one who has lots to deal with, but I've finally got my head around the fact that chocolate/cakes/pizza/crisps etc are not a 'reward' for me, they are a punishment and add to my misery!!

To answer your question, yes the mullerlights with dark chocolate sprinkles are free, it's only the one with the dark cherry underlayer that is syns (1.5syns per pot). They have brought out some new ones called 'Fruitopolis' and they have a bit of fruit on top, which are half a syn each Xx

I understand what you mean but cynically the magazine is a marketing tool for the plan so they will only put bright sunshiney things in there... otherwise it's not a good advertisement for SW and they won't get as many members through their doors.:p

To everyone that has asked - I'm afraid i won't be monitoring another challenge.. i would have left the board a while ago but i felt like i had to see the challenge out till the end for you all :D i don't lose any weight just keep putting on and losing the same amount every week (have already put back on my 3lb loss from last week!)so there's no point in sticking around.

I'll post the last challenge list up later (i'm at work at the minute) and you'll be able to see your final weigh ins...

I made some rhubarb & ginger bars over the weekend but they work out at 4.5 syns each!

I would love that recipe too if you are willing to share? I adore rhubarb and ginger and they are just the perfect amount of syns for when I 'budget' in a treat :)

Been absent over the weekend mostly because bf suprised me with a date afternoon on Saturday and he got his parents to watch wonder bairn :) then yesterday we had a family duvet day as he has gone away to a full week training camp this morning. Also been trying to find ways to clock up extra practice in my car; his mum took me out last night, my dad's coming up twice this week to supervise me driving errands and then bf's mum and I are going to a fabric stockists house on Wednesday to check out some fabrics and I'm driving their too :)

    Back on topic:
This is the start of me trying to stick more closely to plan again to shift these next 25 or so lb and I think because I want to behave more I'm more tempted to snack but avoiding it so far!

Breakfast: HeB toast with baked beans, NAS squash, tea with milk from HeA (2 out of my target of 8 drinks a day to up my fluid intake)
Snack: few cherries, sliced apple, NAS squash (3/8)
Lunch: going to have some HM leek and tattie soup (0.5syn), satsuma and few more cherries, NAS squash (4/8)
*have set a reminder in my phone to have a drink at about 3pm [tea with milk from HeA]*(5/8)
Snack: NAS squash (6/8) satsuma, mini Daim bar (2.5 syn)
Tea: fish in sauce (2.5syn), mash, mixed veggies, NAS Squash (7/8)
During the evening: tea (8/8) perhaps a jubbly lolly (1syn)

    Total syns: 6.5
Body magic: walking just over 1mile in to town and back to post a package for bf and pick up some under bed storage boxes to put his innertubes in under wonder bairn's cot bed

Got some projects to work on tonight; a pinny for me, some posters for playgroup's stall at the gala on Saturday etc so they should keep me occupied this evening :)

Thank you BuffytheVampireBat, I really enjoyed reading that.
You are more than welcome anytime!
I was fed up of feeling deeply unattractive and worthless (and no matter how much the lovely Mr Buffy Bat tried to convince me otherwise I could not be swayed in my perception).
I can totally empathise with this and sadly still feel this way. I have such low self esteem I don’t think I’ll ever feel good about myself and it affects my whole life.
I cut down on the wine, steering more towards gin and slimline tonic.
I too did this - gin & slimline or vodka lime & soda is all I drink.
After about a year I decided to up the carbs a little bit - small servings of wholemeal pasta, a small amount of homemade bread once a week, small servings of potatoes, couscous, and rice once in a blue moon. Slowly but surely the lbs have come and continue to come off.Think I’m at this stage now where I need to hit the carbs to get rid of the last bit and my belly! I for one will certainly not be pelting you with Muller Lights!! I am in total agreement everyone is different and there is no fool proof method that will work for everyone. You have to find out what works for you and adapt to it.
You’ve done fabulously well – so if its working for you why fix it. Pop in anytime – the more the merrier xx

Thank you lantanna, I really appreciate that.

Welcome Buffy the Vampire Bat and thank you for sharing your story. It really helps me to read about people losing weight, just to remind myself that it can happen.
I am also a size 16 and 14 in generous shops and also aspire to fit into size 14 everywhere :)

We'll get there hostie, I'm sure of it! :)
Welcome to the thread Buffy, and please do keep coming back :)

Your post (and Lantanna's) are interesting as there are so many people, women in particular it seems, who suffer with a lack of self esteem and it's something that an organisation such as SW could never tackle. In the USA I think you'd probably toddle off and have therapy, whereas here, we're expected to 'get a grip' and get on with it.

It's funny that only today, my DD mentioned that, although she has lost 7 stone over the last couple of years, she doesn't see 'slim' in the mirror, only the same 'podgy' person she has been for many years. Hopefully, it's just time that's needed in order for her to see how far she has come but whether she sees it or not, her health is better than it was, her fitness levels are higher and her little boy is constantly thrilled that he can get his little arms almost all the way around her now :D

You've both come a long way and I'm sure you're proud of your achievement. SW aims to get your body healthy, the emotional aspect is for someone else to deal with.

Thank you consultant31 :) I do sometimes find that old photos help me "see" the weight loss, but it's getting the thinking to stick that's the problem! :D

I'm sorry but no, I'm not asking for sw consultants to counsel members or hold therapy sessions. As to be quite honest the fact that so many of them are no longer at target makes me question the whole 'change for life' approach that sw is meant to be.
Sorry consultant you were a sw consultant yet your back on the plan to lose weight so surely there was some issue that led to you putting weight back on.
I personally am fed up being the show pony at my group and have enjoyed not staying for image as I can't handle the soooo Mildredd how amazing do you feel now you've lost ALL that weight?
Erm still the same person I was when I wobbled in? My personality hasn't changed. I now have more body hang ups and I'm striving for a perfect body that I probably won't ever achieve but other than that yeah it's alright I'm just less fat than I was.
I personally think sw needs to say losing weight won't solve all your problems and tbh if you have slight body hang ups accept your probably going to have more. Oh and your head won't realise your actually a smaller size for quite some time and you'll always consider yourself the fat one.

Sw doesn't accept will happen apart from find the new you?!
Sorry but changing the chassis on a car doesn't change the engine!!

And I haven't changed as a person I'm still the same person the new me? That implies there was something wrong with me as a person nope just my weight I joined to change my weight not get a new personality.

Someone said to me the other day "you're like a new person now you've lost all this weight" and I felt a bit put out by that, so totally understand your thinking re still being the same person, just slimmer.

I don't for one minute think that SW should offer counselling sessions or therapy, I certainly would not want to sit in a room full of people and talk about my woes. What I was trying to say (badly!) in my original post was that I had to learn why I put on the weight (and put it back on again when I lost it previously). Obviously more calories in than calories out but one of the things behind those calories was not paying much attention to portion control of things like bread and pasta.

The discussion here about body image etc has been really interesting to read, thank you.

Now does anyone else have a problem with fresh pineapple making their mouth feel all tingly? :D Bought a couple of beautiful pineapples for 69p in Morrisons last week, some of the best I've ever eaten, but my mouth now feels like I've eaten an electric eel ;)

Mr Buffy and I are struggling a bit with lunches at the moment. We tried making quinoa salad last week by adding some tinned mackerel, chopped red pepper, radishes, cucumber and some Tabasco sauce, but it was bit like a pot of frogspawn with crunchy bits in. Any quinoa fans here, and if so, any ideas to make the remainder of the bag of frogspawn palatable please? I hate wasting food so want to make the best of the rest of the bag.

Buffy - re pineapple yes it stings my mouth :( when I was overdue with my dd my mouth was burning from the amount of pineapple I was eating :(

Sts for me this week lol load of my bum at the mo :/
This week I'm getting back on it
My wi treat has been eaten.
    Back on the strawberries

For what it's worth I mentioned to a few others this morning that I don't think ill ever be happy with my body as I lost weight and in my head I wanted to be toned and stuff and they said they felt the same but sometimes you gotta accept its not gonna be that way :/

Following megs words of wisdom this weekend I'm trying to see past the belly and see good points. Was talking with my size 8 friend and she's not happy with her belly either (it's like a little Buddha belly)but she says it looks bigger than what it is as she has no boobs :/ I guess no one is ever truly happy with their body ... So I'm embracing the belly this week

Truth is realistically if anyone goes from big to small they will need plastic surgery - look at Sharon Osborne I'm sure she's had a body lift etc
    It's going to happen?!
However I can't face that so ill embrace my stretch marks and saggy bits :/ I am healthier than I was in terms of fitness and I'm average sized remember ;)
