    Hi Mildredd,

I just want to add my two penniesworth about the gall bladder if you're interested.

The first time I had it was about 6-7 years ago and OH MY GOD the pain, I actually thought I was going to die!! I was given codine and Tramadol, which were the only things that could even touch it. Although it said to only take 2 I found that if I did that it made no difference and would still be in the same agonising pain in about an hours time, so I (very naughtily) used to take between 4 and 6 when I had an attack as I just wanted to pain to stop as soon as poss.

It calmed down for a while and then started up again so I went for a scan and they found a few small stones and I can't remember what happened next, I think I was too scared to go for the op so dilly dallied for a while, but strangely I haven't had any attacks now for I'm not sure exactly how long but must be a least 2 years and that's be included when I was on SW and also when I've fallen off the wagon and eaten horrendously, so I have no idea what triggers it, or also what happen to mine. I think they had collected in one place and were stopping whatever it was getting through and they did say there was a chance that they might move around so that they don't block it anymore, so I assume that they are still there and that maybe there is a chance that it could all start up again anytime. Whenever I feel a twinge in my side I start panicking and think to I need to go for the strong painkillers, I got quite good at recognising the pain coming on and quite often got the painkillers in before it make it to a full blown attack.

So there is a chance that yours might settle down and you might not get any trouble for a while, if not for a long while, but if it starts again - get it out as soon as poss coz I know how awful that pain is x

Lucky-legs - stress triggers my attacks and until I lost weight I hadn't suffered any attacks? I'm not a typical sufferer - I'm not 40, not particularly fair, I was fat(still am really) and only had one child so not particularly fertile (took nearly 2 years to fall preg) unfortunately I have them and while I can't link my attacks to any particular food it seems stress is the culprit of them kicking off :( although Im having a good day pain wise today yet have been stressed so my theory could be nonsense :@ hope you have no more attacks! Mine all started between Xmas n new year. I think if I had no attacks for a decent length of time I'd be wary of an op (I've read all the possibles) but unfortunately at the mo I can't go a week without an attack and I'm in pain most days :(

I presume the above is the typical type of person that gets gall stones? Well I am over 40 (just!) I'm not fair, I'm not very over weight (although a little otherwise I wouldn't be here!) I've had two children first took nearly 5 years to conceive although second only took one evening :rotfl: so not sure if I could be counted as fertile our not! And I don't think there is a particular food that sets mine off.

Anyway I hope that you get your op very soon as I know the pain is unbearable, I also hope that what ever is causing your stress gets sorted soon too. Sending hugs x

Mildredd, thanks for the good wishes - you also seem to always know just the right thing to say!

Frogga - great to see you back today :)

Cande - I can identify with what you wrote so much. Rome wasn't built in a day, but I just want it to be so sometimes.

Shala, please put me down for STS this week. That's probably better than I deserve, so I'm happy.

I was reading your thread for some dieting tips and inspiration.
Just thought I would add I have had my gallbladder removed. I was very poorly and as a result lost a lot of weight very quickly. Apparently this can be a cause of gallstones.
Anyway I have never felt pain like it. I've had three children and some horrible cancer treatment but it was nothing compared to the gallbladder pain. This would strike at anytime and would last from anything from 4 hours to 24 hours. I watched my diet and tried to eat small low fat meals but it didn't always work.
The pain didn't seem to ease with painkillers and I used to have to get myself in a sitting position bent over a couple of pillows with a couple of hot water bottles on my back.
When it was removed, the relief was one of elation.
However it did have a downside, after a few weeks I could eat almost anything and larger portions and I did. Most of the weight I lost has gone back on, the dresses and skirts I bought for my slimmer figure are packed away. My trousers have gone from size 12 to 14 and are now a tight 16.
I have also noticed that higher fat foods do just simply go straight through me.
A girl at work is doing SW and doing really well with it. I think I may have a go myself.
Thanks to all who have posted their meal plans and tips. I have actually gone out and got a few of the things talked about such as Alpen lights, danio yoghurt and quark
