(((hugs))) to all those feeling poorly today. Hope you all start feeling better soon.
ARLYBARLY - welcome! I'm glad you have joined us and it's good to know that you think we're a happy lot because we are - despite what ups and downs we all have in our lives!
Well, I did a load of shopping food-wise this morning - fruit and veg from the farm shop, meat from the butcher's and the rest from the Co-op but I did get a lot for my money and enough to make meals for stocking up the freezer again; I spent just under £70 for the whole lot but next week should be a lot less.

Yes, I must admit I can't understand anyone not having contents insurance. I've always had it since I've been running a home and mine is about £80 a year for cover of £44,000 - well worth it for the peace of mind but, of course, it won't cover the really important things like photos, will it? I remember years ago a friend of mine's house caught fire and she lost everything she possessed and had no insurance. We all rallied round and helped as best we could and, as soon as she was more or less set up again, she took out insurance. It just hadn't occurred to her before. A hard lesson to learn. And no insurance pay-out will ever cover the shock of finding everything you have worked hard for ruined.

I have had a good tidy up of the office area, written some letters, had a good clean-up downstairs so that just leaves the ironing (no, I haven't done it yet!) for tomorrow once I've finished the baking. I actually feel back in control of things again which is the first time since we came home from our trip away.

I'm now going to treat myself to a sit down with a cuppa and a read of the paper so see you all later!

    Cant wait to see him!

Not had chance to read the thread yet from this morning, but will catch up later, lots to do at the mo.

    Hi all
It's gloriously sunny here in Berkshire & I've just got home & put a load of washing on the line & the stuff I hung out this morning was all dry.
I'm afraid I have no house insurance, I let it lapse this year when my council tax & fuel bills both went up £30 a month. I was left with a choice between food & insurance & food won, hopefully I'll be able to reinstate it soon.
I'm going to go in the garden & play with Thumper & Ogden for half an hour.
    Hugs to all
    Hester

Aarrrgh, it's been one of those days at work today! Why is it that if I want something done properly I have to do it myself - and my best still isn't good enough for some people!??

Anyway, work nearly over and it's almost the weekend. Remember I said I was pretty busy? Well, I think I'm just about to get busier - got a text from my mum saying asking if I'd like to meet up tomorrow. One of the reasons she moved south was to see more of me - and because my "quiet" weekends always seem to coincide with the ones where she's driving up to Durham to keep her house clean and the insurance valid, I haven't seen her since the May Bank Holiday. My flat is in desperate need of cleaning, I need to pick up my dry-cleaning from the cheapo place near my old house (which can't wait as I need one of the items for this Sunday) and I am going to a concert in the evening... Still, should be able to manage to catch up with Mum, if we meet up in town. I've got a brochure full of Wetherspoons discount vouchers so I reckon a wander round the Imperial War Museum (where we meant to go the last time we met, but got sidetracked!), followed by a meal, sounds like a decent idea.

Crazychik - congratulations to your babysitter :T
fizzel81 - your housing situation sounds like a big worry. I hope they sort you out soon. Is it you that's leaving army married quarters because of a divorce? Good luck whatever happens.

Right, off to the Royal Opera House for the evening :D Hopefully should avoid the disruption around Haymarket, as I can walk to the ROH from here without crossing the affected area. I've found out that the show's due to finish at 9:45, so I will get home in time to have the option of (a) getting an early night and being up with the lark to start on the housework, or (b) doing some intensive tidying and cleaning before bed. I like option (b) best. Why is it that I'm always in the mood for housework in the middle of the night  :rotfl:

DH has just popped round to Aldis for some soft food. Mouth is very sore:( and I have to be careful wih these temporary crowns so will be living on soups, yogurts, custard, mashed potato, trifle and cottage cheese (though not all at the same time! )this is going to have to come out of the July grocery challenge budget. Any ideas for cheap nourishing soft foods would be very welcome. I'm going to be like this for some time.

    Afternoon all

Just got back from dd's summer fair - at 3pm I had thought it would be cancelled as it bucketted down so I put on waterproofs before cycling from work - halfway home i had to stop and strip off and now the sun is shining so hard there's a glare on the screen. Dd did really well at the toiletries tombola with my pound and won 6 nice things that are going in the present cupboard. I think that by then though the teachers were tired and fed up and were just giving everything away :)

One of the advantages (there are many) of giving exoh notice to quit is the reinstatement of Daddy Weekends and he will be here ... ooh an hour ago ... to pick her up. I am celebrating by cooking a chicken (dd is veggie and i get folorn looks if i cook meat at home LOL) - I have snuck it into the oven while she does her packing and hopefully he will be here before it starts to smell too yummy and gives me away.

Still no word from the engineer about the washing machine part so it's back to the bath for me - i have the heating on full trying to dry everything before it starts to smell but will take all the towels to middle dd tomorrow.

plans for this weekend are to sort out the junkyard .... er i mean spare room for bil's visit next week, to finish the blessed stairs once and for all, catch up with the flylady list and eat chicken.

    enjy your evening

catznine what about scrambled eggs, semolina pudding with some jam on the top, icecream, tinned spaghetti hoops, mix sardines in with mashed potato, cheesy potatoes ( mashed potato and stir in grated cheese) or cook the potatoes with carrots or swede turnip and mash together, poached eggs, hope you are tucking into a steak before long :D

Thank you Twink! I would never have thought of mixing sardines in with the mash but now I really fancy trying that, would be a bit like fish cakes I guess only softer! love cheesy mash so will do that tomorrow.

Off for more pain killers! Hopefully will be back to normal soon.
