My mw appointment was fine. They've booked me in for a 'holistic' appt next Thursday which is basically a sweep if you want one and then an aromatherapy foot massage with reflexology!!
That sounds lovely - I wish they did that here. (Well they do sweeps obviously but not the other stuff and I'm not sure a sweep could be described as lovely.) My next appointment is at 40 weeks (or officially 40+3 because they've dated me wrong) but I'm hoping not to get that far.

Ndg that sounds rubbidh :( its horrible when they're patronising, whats the point of being in a caring role if you're just going to be nasty to people? When do you get the results?

I'm 31 weeks today, I'm so big now and she moves all the time but big thumps and jolts that make my whole belly move! I have this heavy feeling in my belly when I wake up, like as if I've eaten a big meal, but I'm finding myself really hungry a lot and scared to eat much as I don't want to put on too much weight. I don't know how much I weigh anymore as our scales broke lol, I really need to brave getting some more!

Thats so annoying they were so patronising! How often are you still being sick and now many weeks are you now?

I just had my 38 week appt.

But then at the end of the appt she did say, 'well theoretically you could have another month left, but I really just cant see that happening with you.'

So I guess we'll find out over the next week or so if shes right or not! I said to her oh well I will tell my hubby and it will mean he will do any job I instruct him to do in record time so its worth you saying it anyway :rotfl: I came home and told him and he said 'Should I take the rest of the week off then?'

I'm 31 weeks, and very tired of throwing up. It's not as bad as it was with my first pregnancy, but it's tiring and boring. It's also quite annoying telling the doctor who is supposed to deal with it that you feel out of sorts and very tired, and being told everything's fine, and then the blood tests come back showing deficiencies in various things and not being fine after all!

It sounds as if you OH is concerned and taking care of you - that's a good thing, rather than him saying, "whatever, let me know when it's born" I reckon!

I have five weeks left of work and am a little overwhelmed by the fact that I don't know if I get a handover or not.... but hey, that's not my problem it's managements.

Baby is bumbling around lots today in my belly, and after a couple of glitches with taking my blood sugar I'm back on course (silly me forgot to take before dinner on Monday, then took it after I started eating and wonder why it was high duh!)
    )

Are you diabetic generally, or do you have gestational diabetes? Glad it's back on course, whichever one. And you're right, it's not your problem at work, don't borrow trouble lol.

It's so annoying when things which clearly aren't just normal pregnancy are dismissed as such. Are you being treated for the sickness? If you're still being sick in late pregnancy they really should be doing everything they can. I can recommend the Pregnancy Sickness Support Trust (http://www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/) for both information and support. I was sick all the way to nine months in two pregnancy but this time with the right treatment (I'd had about six different medications in other pregnancies but they didn't work) I was only actually throwing up for four weeks so it can make a huge difference.

I've been on two different drugs for the sickness, both of which help, but don't entirely stop it. They reduce it a bit, that's all. I'll have a look at that URL - thanks for that, and I'd love it if I could throw up a bit less often!

I'm seeing someone tomorrow about the detailed blood results. Fortunately, I'm not in court - I was offered an appointment for next Monday, but I'm in court then, so they suggested tomorrow instead.

I've not weighed myself, but at my last midwife appointment was told I was 1.5kg below my booking in weight. I can't honestly recommend the hyperemesis method of not gaining weight in pregnancy, though! It's not all joy.....

That's really interesting to know because I was throwing up from
5-21 weeks and assumed it would be the same for subsequent pregnancies. So much so I was thinking about waiting til our baby is school age or my mum retires to have more children as I was so ill, rather than a couple of years gap.

He's amazing he really is. It just makes me laugh as he's such a laid back person normally!

Oh dear that's horrible. I still get nauseous now but haven't thrown up in ages. You have my full sympathy!

I was told that it's more likely you get bad sickness again in subsequent pregnancies if you've had it before, but not definite.

It was definitely worse in my first - I ended up on a drip several times, and I've avoided that this time. But I'm still throwing up 2-3 days a week, and once I start, several times in a day. It's very boring.

Your logic is similar to mine in relation to the sickness - my first son is now 8 years old lol.

Yes, it's more likely that you will be sicker than average if you were before and I would be just as sick this time as the other times without the medication I'm on. I am so thankful that a) my GP was willing to prescribe me this medication and b) it has worked for me. If you've been very sick before I would defintiely try to get a treatment plan agreed with your GP in advance. If you were sick enough that it would affect your plans for more children then it is defintiely bad enough for having a treatment plan and for them to be working through the different medications until they find one that works well enough for you.
  • Its natural to feel this way, have you watched any youtube videos or one born every minute etc? its gonna happen so you might as well watch what to expect to help prepare you. Its hard to describe, but your body takes over and you somehow cope with the pain, your body just instinctively knows what to do x

Yeah, birth is a normal sight to me as I've wanted to be a midwife since young so have consequently been watching birth videos from young!

I'm just really anxious about the pain, and it is scary when you hear/see other women going nuts from it. I have quite a low pain threshold and it's the fact that the pain goes on for several hours that terrifies me :( x

I was so scared with DS I was just 19 and didn't have much support apart from my Mum and she wasn't at the birth.

My waters went in hospital - I had been poorly with a bad tummy and they wanted to keep an eye so I was admitted for the night was definatly fate in my mind. I was in a pre labour ward with lots of other ladies and when my waters went they were all very excited for me.

The midwife was called and she said it would be a long time and examined me but by this time I was over 5cm dilated so she gave me gas and air - barely touched it though was concerntrating on breathing. She was trying to get a labour suite but all were in use and I was too far gone to be moved.

I had DS in the ward, curtain closed around me with lots of women in earshot with in that hour. Far from what I wanted or expected but I wasn't scared of the situation, just scared of the physically stage of pushing.

It was the worst pain I have ever encountered but I have to say that it was like a light switch, once DS was out it went and his little face looking back at me made me realise it was all worth it and I had nothing to fear.

There were some negatives of a fast labour and that had to be dealt with after, but then there are negatives of all sorts of births, but ultimatly its not called labour for nothing.

Prior to childbirth I could have cried if I bruised my finger tip. I was terrible. It definatly made me stronger.

I often find that reading others' birth stories gives a good variation but afterall, how do we know each others limits. My friends are all horrified I gave birth in a ward but then the next person could have been greatful for even getting to a Hospital. We all have expectation and fears and its hard to measure as we are all different people.

Visiting a labour suite is a good way of guiding yourself in, seeing the surroundings - I will be greatful if this time I even get to a suite.

Try not to worry too much and definatly look at some positive birth stories :)

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm really excited about the labour because I am so DESPERATE to meet her but it's hard not to feel fear about it too, especially as I don't feel prepared. I'll definitely look up some positive stories though :)

Delurking to say I was really scared. When it came to it you just do what you've got to do. At times it feels impossible but what they say is right, your body just knows what to do. I look back on it and think it was an amazing experience and would do it again in a heartbeat x

    Thank you x

Its weird the feeling scared of labour thoughts we get - I wasn't apprehensive really on my first but was definitely on my 2nd as I knew how much it hurt! Had a very speedy labour (luckily!) on 2nd but I can still remember the pain and lol - here I go again!! Hoping for another speedy one as just thinking about what you get at the end gets you through it xx Your body just gets on with it.....

Yeah, I've hear that that sometimes STMs are just as/more scared than FTMs as they know what to expect. x
