  • Congratulations to you MancMama and Pinkpetal!

Great news! That's very early Mancmama, glad he's doing well.

Pinkpetal our boy was unsettled at night to start with, now it's the opposite.

He sleeps brilliantly at night. He's only waking once for a feed, but during the day, he absolutely refuses to nap! He still gets tired and grouchy, you can see him yawning and rubbing his eyes but the second you put him down for a nap, he starts crying or just thrashing around energetically trying to show us how awake he is.

It's a pain as it means he spends most of the day in a sleepy grump, unless we're able to take him for a walk to sleep.

When he first wakes up in the morning he's so lovely and cheery, just a shame he won't take his naps so he can be more like that through the rest of the day!

Congratulations Pink Petal, Georgia is just a gorgeous name! We've had a few unsettled nights as well, but loving every minute, I second your comments about your other half I could not have coped without mine the last couple of weeks.

Tinks I really hope the sweep gets things moving for you soon X

Thanks for all the lovely messages, it's so strange to see my name on the birth list!

congratulations on all the recent births, I still pop back here to see how everyone is doing.

I think most babies are unsettled to start with when they are first born, our little boy was, but he quickly got settled, although he was feeding every three hours during the night, he did settle quickly between each bottle meaning I got a reasonable amount of sleep even though it was broken up.

Our little boy is now 16 weeks old, its gone so quickly, but now he settles and is asleep by 8.30 he will stir a few times so I find ewan the sheep settles him back down and will sleep through till between4.30 and 6, will have a small bottle and will then sleep though til 8.30ish. Some days he naps well, others not so well, so I try and get out most days for a walk as I know this way he will have a decent nap- plus the exercise is good for me. When he doesn't nap he gets over tired and can be difficult at bedtime (loads of crying, not giving in and going to sleep), although he does seem to be getting better with this now.
  • Congratulations to everyone whose little ones have arrived. I'm due in April and it still seems to far away. Xxx

A positive midwife appointment this morning. :) My iron levels (since taking tablets and increasing the iron in my diet as much as possible) have gone up from 96 to 111. They're still below the magic 115, so I have to keep taking the tablets etc, but she was really pleased with how quickly I'd been able to get them up. She also weighed me and did the usual checks at this stage, and everything is going well. My next appointment is in a couple of weeks (36+5) and we'll discuss the birth plan then. I've had it written for ages now, but tweaked it a bit this morning as we've since started hypnobirthing classes so I needed to add in some bits from this as we hope to use the techniques we've learnt.

I'm feeling quite positive about everything now. We got my son's newborn clothes out of the loft and I intend to try and wash them on Friday if I'm not working along with the new rainbow baby sleepsuit that I've ordered which should be in the post currently. I also need to print all of my payslips so that I can apply for my SMA as I wasn't entitled to SMP, but I've filled out the rest of the form already.

I hope all of the ladies who are due soon are doing well.

Hi all! Sorry ive not posted in a while but I've had my hands full with the birth of our new baby daughter Esme! (It has the little flick on the last e but it won't let me post it lol!)
I had hoped she would have come before Christmas but she decided to wait until it was her due date to make an appearance and arrived safely 2nd jan weighing 6lb 10oz - labour was a long 22 hours for my fella but I was spaced out on gas and air so didn't realise how long!
Because of merconium in the waters I was unable to have a water birth as planned so chose an epidural as well as I had chronic back labours. My mom also agreed to stay for the birth as sometimes a girl just wants her mommy to help the pain go away!

I'm so in love with her it's untrue - I'm absolutely knackered but don't want to sleep as I just want to stare and listen to her
Having a little trouble breast feeding as she is still not latching and sucking on me properly so currently hand expressing the tiny drops I can and topping up with bottles - my boobs have swollen mega today so hopefully my main milk has arrived and we can ditch the formula and pump the milk while we master the breastfeeding.

Congratulations to everyone else who has had their little bundles arrive! Will have a proper read and catch up when I get a chance lol! X

    Congratulations newcook!!

I would really recommend getting in touch with the infant feeding team/specialist at your hospital, they will be able to help Esme (lovely name!) to latch and check there are no reasons why she might find it hard like tongue or lip tie. Meantime you could try cup feeding so she doesn't develop a bottle preference, or could use a syringe to give colostrum if your milk isn't quite in yet. It's hard going at the beginning but it does get easier! Put her to the breast as much as you can and read on the 'kellymom' website for help/tips too.

There is also a very good FB group 'Breastfeeding younger babies and beyond' if you join an admin will send a message before you're approved so check your 'Others' message folder.
