I wish I hadn't made the mistake of telling people what my midwife said at the last appointment. She said the scan was showing a new date of 18th April (today, eek!), but that I would probably give birth before that. Ha. So friends and family have been taking today as my due date, only 10am and I've had several phone calls to ask if I'm in labour - as if baby knows today is the day the scan said it should arrive :rotfl: The date the hospital is using is the 23rd, and I think I'll be at least a few days past that.

People are being nice about it though. Mostly jokey comments, like the MILs who both work at the hospital, telling me their work schedule and it would be "handy" if I was in labour then so they could nip out of work to see me. I'd crack up if people were seriously expecting me to be in labour for their convenience though!

I plan on going for a nice big walk tomorrow and see if that does anything. Both my previous labours have started shortly after long walks, I'm not sure how much it helped, but I could do with the exercise and fresh air and change of scenery anyway :)

  • Thank you ladies! :D It's nice to know we're not the only ones - though why people feel they need to hassle us in anyone's guess - and if they think it's going to make the slightest bit of difference!! I never even thought of doing so with my SILs (although 5 out of the 6 were early).

    Hi everyone!
    I'm currently at 30 weeks (1st child- we're having a boy).

Hi nattykins - do you want adding to the list?

One thing that really p!sses me off at the minute is the people stroking my (sizeable) bump- I'm not a bloody cat or dog- leave me alone!!!!
That was one advantage of having abdominal surgery when I was ~17 weeks pregnant - when people touched my bump I could scream and say "Owww, the scar hasn't healed yet" ;) and they would look horrified and apologise!!!! Only a few people have touched it - and I let them because they're really close friends and they asked first.

One thing I was wondering is if any of you guys have recommendations for baby monitors? We really don't know what's good and what isn't. We can't decide if we want a video one or just a sound one???!!!
Any help would be gratefully received!

My OH is downloading an App for about £3 which will allow us to use a spare computer camera (the kind you use for Skype etc) and spare mobile phone. It's ok to use your home Wi-Fi connection so long as you have a secure network and he's really computer savvy (fortunately!) so I trust him. I know that might not help you though (sorry!)!!! Basically, we figure that for the first few months baby will be in with us at night, and during the day either OH or I will be in the same room so we won't need one initially.

Regarding the video vs sound issue, I guess it partly depends on whether you will be intending to get up to check on every sound or if you will use the video to check - if that makes sense.

It might be worth asking on the "newborn" board - as they will have been using baby monitors and will know what they like and dislike about the ones they have.

33+1 today. So uncomfortable. Haven't slept for months, ache all over, constipated (despite having an excellent diet, taking lactulose and glycerine suppositories) and low iron stores. Sick of hearing myself moaning but equally sick of people telling me "not long now!"

Fed up fed up fed up. I'm hoping this baba comes a little early because he thought of another 9 weeks of this is enough for me to give up.

Sorry for the moany post, hope you're all ok. Especially Milly and AP (AP if you can't tell your MIL to shove it then when can you?!) x

krusty lousie I know how you feel, I'm 33+4 today and just cant sleep or get comfortable. Had to go in to be monitored yesterday as having tummy pains all day, scared me a bit when they told me I the monitor showed regular contractions, but they did a 'fibronectin' test to check if I was going into pre-term labour and it was negative, so thinking just brakston hicks. Told I was dehydrated as well, so forcing cups of water down at every oppertunity lol.
2 weeks more of work and struggling quite a bit now, going to see how it goes, fingers crossed will make it to my mat leave date!
Hope all of those imminently awaiting arrivals have some news soon and just ignore all those people giving 'advice'! xxx
  • big hugs to krustylouise and everyone else who's feeling fed up. And don't apologise for the moany post - that's what we're here for!! We need to let off steam somewhere!

anyway, that's why I set myself targets - just a week till next apt, just a few days until x etc. Kind of makes it more bearable / achievable. (kind of!)

Stressing out a bit here, so much to do and so little time. I was 37 weeks yesterday and am worried I will come early, have 2 more days at work.

Birth pool arrived yesterday so need to do a practice blow up tonight when niall is asleep and need to check hose fixtures to tap work. Cot also arrived yesterday so that needs setting up. Need to read through tens machine instructions and do a practice, loads of stuff to do around the house eeekkk

Baby's head was 2/5s engaged 2 weeks ago and have been getting sore down there esp my days I spend with my toddler when I don't sit down much. I said to dh it feels like it's coming out lol

Very impressed with your cons auntie pickle sounds great. Also great to hear you have holistic induction options.

I think my mil thinks I am going to come early cos bump is down low and engaged but they can go in and out of engagement.

    Sympathy for all those suffering.
