Jedi I was watching the screen while the MW was doing the measurements, and at this stage it's really quite difficult to make anything out (unless you're trained in it!) I don't think there was any danger of me being able to tell what sex the baby was. It wouldn't hurt to let the person scanning you that you really don't want to know, and don't want it in your notes either! I'm still not sure why she put that detail in, surely it's not medically necessary.
People are still asking me if I know what I'm having, and am still saying no. As far as I'm concerned, I never asked so I was never told!

Afternoon all.
missymoo hope your feet are feeling ok? Can you beg a foot/ankle rub off OH? I know what you mean about feeling old, lol! I take my socks off and the dint from the elastic takes ages to go away!!
gayleygoo-you're organised! I wish I had the motivation to use washable stuff-I just know I'm too lazy, with our kitchen being two flights of stairs down from the bedroom!
princess Katethe birthing pools are like swimming pools, aren't they? You saw the theatre? :eek:I hear you on the sleeping thing-bit of an art form isn't it?
Milly I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much-these things are rarely very accurate, although I know that's easier said than done.
Thanks for all the birth plan info people. I followed the NHS template, but it was huuuuuge !! There are only a few real things that it won't budge on (unless I have to, obviously), so I think I'll just write a short bullet opting list, as I don't want it to get lost in all the info.
I'm having a batch cooking day, preggy style-chopping up and peeling and prepping all the veg box delivery, ready for freezing, whilst sitting down as much as possible! :rotfl:
I'm surrounded by little pink babygro's drying too-so cute!
We're counting down in days now, so excited, and ready for her to appear whenever she wants
Sorry if I've missed anyone . Hugs to all xxx'By all means let's be open minded, but not so open minded that our brains drop out.'0 -
I've done my birth plan, few headings and bullet points, easy to read and to the point.
Yes the theatres were a bit :eek:The birthing pool was so much bigger than I thought, there are steps, wondered how on earth I'd get in otherwise!
Saw the midwife this morning & my bp is up a bit again 166/88, she said there was no point sending me to hospital as they'd only do it again & its the diastolic (bottom number) which they really worry about & the cut off to be sent straight in to hospital is 100 so I'm a way off that. She's going to come to my house on friday to take it again. Don't really know what I can do to help it get down....
We had our 1st parent craft class this afternoon, didn't really learn anything but it's all info I guess, I was sat on the most uncomfortable chair for 2 hours & my back is in bits now! Might not be helped by the baby's head which is now sat well in my pelvis according to the midwife!0 -
Hello all. Had an extra scan today to check growth. Baby is a little bit small but they aren't concerned. Was lovely to see her again and hear the heartbeat. Time is flying by and I start NCT classes soon.
Princess Kate - I hope your blood pressure is ok. Hopefully it will be down on Friday.
Gayleygoo - hope they haven't spoiled your surprise. Odd that they did that as I know I am having a girl and it isn't written anywhere in my notes.
Anyone else suffering from swelling. My hands and feet are really swollen by the end of the day to the extent that shoes and jewellery cuts in.0 -
Bubblepops - my feet and ankles aren't too bad now thank you although they are most swollen when I get home from work, I'm just trying to keep them up as much possible but I just feel so lazy when I do it
I know its good for me and relieves the swelling but DH came home with two friends this evening and I immediately took my feet off the chair so I didn't look lazy - how ridiculous is that!? Sounds like you're keeping busy but make sure you get lots of rest in too before little lady arrives, fingers crossed she doesn't keep you waiting too long
Princess kate - Our hospital doesn't give tours to prevent infection and contamination but they give you a DVD with a virtual tour. It's hard to gauge just how big/small the rooms are from it, I would definitely prefer a real tour but can see their reasons for not doing them. How many parent classes have you got? We've got our last one this week - can't believe how fast the time has gone since our first one!
I also had a problem with blood pressure at my appointment today which DH has got really worried about but I think its just one of those things. Normally my bp is around the 110/65 mark (pre-pregnancy it was almost always 120/80) but today it was 130/90. After taking my bump measurements, hearing hb and feeling baby position it was taken again and it had dropped to 125/85 - normally a healthy bp but above what mine has usually been. Midwife asked if I've had headaches, blurred vision or pain which I haven't, so she advised for me to come back in one week to get it re-checked. She also said if I experience any of the symptoms she mentioned then to ring Delivery Suite which was a bit unexpected, but just goes to show how close we are to the end now! I did get a bit stressed at work in the morning but wouldn't have thought it would affect my bp hours later, but at the moment I'm just putting it down to that. I have no idea how to get it down, just relax I suppose but easier said than doneHope yours is alright on Friday Princess.
ashtray heart - see my comments above regarding swelling of my feet and ankles! My fingers also swelled quite a lot early on so I had to take my wedding and engagement rings off a month or so ago as they were getting rather tight. DH bought me a necklace for Valentine's day so I now wear them round my neck
Another thing I've noticed with my hands which is getting worse is carpal tunnel - is anyone else experiencing this? According to the NHS it occurs in 50% of pregnancies. It aches to bend my fingers and gets worse in the night. When I wake up, I have to manually ease my fingers into a fist and back straight a few times as they are just so stiff, and they feel numb and tingly at times. It's not affected how I go about my day but its just one more thing to moan about3 weeks and 6 days to go til DD, bring it on!

Missy we really are twins....was to the carpel tunnel!! Only really getting it in my left hand but it's so weird & annoying!! My head feels totally dead & takes ages to come back to feeling normal. I mentioned it to my midwife yesterday & she said I'm too late on to be referred to physio for it Abby the time I would be seen I'd probably have had the baby & it usually clears up straight away then.
Bp is a funny thing, they're worried about pre-eclampsia with it suddenly going high which can effect how efficiently the placenta works. If theresno protein in your urine, no blurred vision, no headaches all should be ok but they keep a very close eye on it as the likelihood is it will go up further in labour and they don't want it getting scary high then. Hopefully it'll be down a bit tomorrow when she comes to the house.
We've got 2 more classes, some of the ladies in the course aren't due till end of May or June, seemed like ages away to me when I've got less than 4 weeks...OMG!! there was quite a few husbands who looked like they'd come straight from work & 1 looked terrified the whole time! My OH was shocked by the hook they use to break your waters, didn't realise it was an actual hook apparently! He though they just poked them & they broke, hehe.
I've hit my friend from uni coming down for the day today with her 7 month old baby, lots of nattering, out for lunch, bit of shopping. Lovely! I went up to see her just before she had her baby last year & at the time had just started my fertility treatment, didn't expect her to be visiting me in the same situation less than a year later!

Sorry about your BP princess Kate. Hopefully it will be back to normal when she does it next, especially if you are at home? We didn't learn much in our parent craft classes either, don't worry, other than that some people are going to be responsible for a baby-scary.
My personal fave comments were 'can I use my tens machine in the water?' And 'well, you wash their eyes with baby shampoo, no more tears, innit?' I struggled to not have my jaw hit the floor!!
Sounds like you have a lovely day ahead! Enjoy!
Aww, ashtray heart I love hearing their little hb!! And yep-I have cankles to be proud of-my socks leave permanent dents these days! :rotfl: pregnancy is sooo attractive, isn't it?
missymoo I understand the feet up thing-I absolutely can't slow down, no matter how hard I try! But my OH keeps informing me, baby cooking is a tough job, so even if we are resting, we are still working harder than they would be running around. So get those feet up!!!! Might i recommend a good boxset and a pj day? Maybe not a thriller/action one, not helpful for the BP!
AFM-true to form, think I overdid it yesterday! Although to be fair I felt a bit off it anyway. Going to try and get a few hours sleep on the sofa this morning, cos bed is not comfy any more, then a potter round the craft room whilst I can.
OH had to explain to all the kids at his school yesterday why he was breaking the rules and is allowed his phone on (locked in a drawer), and why he dived for it yesterday when it went off :rotfl: think someone's excited'By all means let's be open minded, but not so open minded that our brains drop out.'0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about the bp, think they just like to be cautious. I had high BP once during my pregnancy with my daughter and was told to watch out for pre eclampsia signs but think it was just after a stressful day!
The theatre looks a bit scary but is fine. One good thing on my antenatal class last time was that they explained how many people would be in there with you which helped as I didn't panic as to why so many people were there. It was actually quite a calm experience even though it was an emcs (not the real emergency type though) and the radio was playing etc. Remember rule the world playing just after my daughter was born which i walked down the aisle to two years later !0 -
hi everyone
big hugs for the carpel tunnel and swelling etc. Weirdly, I think because I lost so much weight early on, my rings are actually looser on my finger than pre-pregnancy - but I still get sock and shoe marks on my feet!!!
I'm back with the nausea and vomiting again. I've been given metoclopramide which does help - but unfortunately you can't take it once you're being sick because it wouldn't have time to be absorbed. Last night was a bad night
I think we've bought 99% of things now - just need maternity pads and to double check "outfits" (for me) for my hospital bag and a room thermometer. We're getting the geo-egg one which has different colours depending on the temp to show if it's too hot or too cold.
Hope everyone else is having a good day - it's nearly the weekend!!! :TRock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock0 -
Wow bubblepops! Your class sounds interesting, no comments like that in mine but I'll listen out incase & report back! It is scary some of the people who have baby's, no idea & you can't help but feel sorry for them!
Sorry your sickness has returned Aunty, the end is in sight now but I know how miserable it can be.
Baby is feeling very head down today, lots of pressure in my pelvis, all to be expected but when I'm sat down I worried I might squash it! Ha! I've had a lovely day with my friend, her little one is lovely but at 9 months is on the go all the time! Realised how un-baby proofed my house is but I guess that will change gradually over time.
One of my other close friends had her 12 week scan today, all was fine, she was really nervous bless. I can remember that feeling so well but told her even when you can watch them moving around in your tummy you still worry about everything being ok!0
