Welcome Freddie! We bought the next2me dreams this time, I had the Shnuggle last time so I'll pop that in the living room. I like the idea of seeing baby beside me too, hopefully it'll save the lifting too.

Growth scan today is back on track so I have a couple more CTGs booked before c-section, let's hope baby will hold tight in there!

How are you getting on Kirsty? Hope your both doing well!

We are doing well thanks Sweet :) Registered little man today so he is now official! Excellent news about growth being back on track :)

We have the next2me dreams and I love it :D

How exciting laura, anytime now :D

Hope you have some better days soon Lavender xx

Maybe a little early but not unheard of. Who knows! You'll soon find out I guess! Are you all organised? I'm 38+4 today.

Glad he's doing well Kirsty! Good to hear the dreams gets a good review. I'm not going to attach it at first so I have room to sit up beside the bed and get in and out. I like that the side is see through though.

Ladies (and Freddie) - I'm going to ask a naïve question here, but is a next-to-me cot essential? We had not planned on getting one. I've looked at plenty of lists of 'things-you-can't-not-get' and it doesn't feature, but everyone seems to buy one and even fellow frugal people I know buy them too! If it is absolutely needed, we will have to rearrange all the bedrooms in our house to accommodate it (sounds drastic, but true!), we've already got to buy 2 cots as we will have 2 houses by then (long story) and I've not budgeted for a third.

Thing we've spent money on are sleep safety and car safety - car safety we bought a top of the range car seat because of the distances we have no choice but to cover (part of the long story), and sleep safety, we've bought expensive gro-bags and the gro-egg. I've always had the view that I'd rather wash re-usable nappies and have plain vests and babygrows rather than cute outfits and spend the money on the things I'm paranoid about! Now I'm paranoid that I'm not paranoid about a next-to-me cot... What am I missing?

It's not essential in the slightest Lavender! It's recommended baby sleeps in your room for the first 6 months with a clean safe clear sleep space of their own. https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/ my reason for buying the next to me is so I can see baby, the moses basket I had before I couldn't see in and it was tiring getting up and down all night to feed. Have you bought somewhere for baby to sleep?

Thanks Sweeti, we will do soon :) chosen our cots from Ikea and we will order in the next month. I also got a free baby box and I'm planning on using that in the living room rather than buying a separate Moses basket. I had planned, in both places, to have the cot at the end of the bed. We just don't have room down the side of the bed for a next-to-me without swapping all the rooms round, so I will have to put up with getting up and down in the night! I just wondered if it was a safety thing and you *had* to be able to just reach out and check on them regularly. I feel better knowing that we've got the sleeping bags and there won't be anything for baby to get tangled in/caught under.

No its purely just convince Lavender bee, my first would cry why I went back to bed but was settled when I had my hand in the moses basket so thought I'd give this a go. Is it the Scottish Baby box you got? I have that too it's really good!! I have the sleeping bags too, they were a bit big for my newborn last time but hopefully they'll be good when they grow a little.

DS slept fine in his crib - which was one my Dad had made for me when I was born. We just bought a new mattress in a size that fitted.

OH wanted a next2me because early on she was so achey that bending down to pick DS up was very difficult for her (crib was quite low down) she also didn't like the fact that she couldn't seem him easily without having to sit up and shuffle over.

She also really wants to try to breast feed again - even though it didn't work last time. So having baby really close should help with that too.

Obviously it's not essential though, we just fancied it and found one for relatively low price.

Also - you can get really good sleeping bags at supermarkets and IKEA for a lot cheaper than branded GroBags

Sainsburys had some brilliant summer tog ones last year with nice designs on. We got them when they had 20% off on all clothing. Stocked up on lots of lovely (and low price!) clothes.

We have to get rid of one of the bedside tables and shuffle the bed over in order to fit the next2me crib in because it's quite wide and we've got fitted wardrobes either side.

Oh - The GroEggs over exaggerate the temperature by a couple of degrees. Ours was always saying it was too hot. when we started using the baby monitor (after a while - when we started trying to settle him to sleep a bit before we went up to bed) that gave a temperature reading anyway. So we didn't use the GroEgg very much at all

I'm planning on breastfeeding, I'm just a masochist and planned to get up and down! The cot does at least have a "higher" level, and I am short...

Maybe it's the time of year, but I didn't have much joy with summer sleeping bags. I bought winter sleeping bags from M&S in the sale (stupidly cheap!), but there are few lighter weight ones available. Our house is very well (too well) insulated so I think we'll be using lightweight ones a fair bit, Mothercare had 40% off Grobags for a day so I bought them then. I also picked up a 0.5tog one from Mothercare for £5! Saved up £65 of Nectar points and I've got my fingers crossed for the spring double up, if that doesn't happen then I'm sure there will be a 25% off event at some point. I've been offered some unused newborn clothing (baby was born too big for them), I was going to use my points on that so I can use them for something else now :)

I used babyboxuniversity Sweeti, I think my box says Middlesex hospital on it. I live nowhere near Middlesex!

Our Gro Egg agrees with our thermostat if I put it in the middle of the room (but not if I put it on the outskirts). Problem we have is that hubby always thinks it's too hot and I always think it's too cold - we needed something to make the decision for us. It's a miracle we can live with each other really!
