How should I block up this stupid little pipe? And what's it for?
So I'm going to take the advice that a few people have given and replace the white pipe thing with one without holes, and I'm going to replace the U-bend and so on at the same time, as suggested, just in case there's a blockage or something
Way to go. Replace all three bits with new; vertical section from sink, U-bend, and right-angle piece to the waste outlet
Two vital things to remember before you replace the U-bend. Put the plug in the sink and put a large bowl under the U-bend to collect all the water and gung that will be it it.
I would just blank them off with a few wraps of cling film and make sure they are pointing upwards, no point in spending money when you don't really need to and if you don't know what you are doing you end up with bits that don't match and leak. Do get some 3/4 BSP blanking caps for those washing machine taps though - you know it makes sense !
