Champagne cork, always swells up, so place in hole and leave it.

You have now had 101 ways to fix it :D

For what it's worth, I'd also unscrew the u-bend below and put it on straight and not at an angle, like it is now. It doesn't look too safe at that angle.

Edit: Just looked at the photo again and there might not be enough space for it to go on straight.

    twist it upwards vertically
That won't make any odds, the sink is above the pipe so any water in the sink will still find it's way out when the plug is removed.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Thanks so much for all the help everyone. I've been brave enough to unscrew the little pointy-uppy pipey bit and it came straight off. Sadly though my 15mm end stop doodah doesn't fit in the hole in the bendy drainy tube so I still haven't got a working sink. I think I'm going to unscrew the whole bendy drainy bit and get a new one without the stupid holes or pointy-uppy tubes in.

I also noticed that there's another stupid little pipe on the back of the thing too - presumably where the previous resident had connect their second device (dishwasher and washer) so maybe I should throw it away because when I get a washer I'll need one with one thing not two as I don't plan on getting a dishwasher.

    Thanks again everyone.

Also for anyone still reading here are some more pictures of the stuff under my sink. What do you reckon to it? I don't know what most of it is but I assume and blue and red pipey things are for a washer or dishwasher (there's another blue one on its own as well), and I guess one of those turny-things is the water-stopper thing (but what's the other one for then?!) and the white box says smartmeter on it so I guess that's my water meter?

  • That plug socket looks well located, thank god its not outside - wouldn't want it to get wet.

OK the blank to seal the pipe your putting in the wrong way round in the picture?
Looks like the 'smart meter' is in fact a water meter but its rather large and can't see anything to read, you know numbers.

Any blue turny things are cold water any red ones are hot water. Usually you would attach dishwasher/wash machine via pipes.
Any gold turny things are usually to turn off water completely.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy one the right size?
