Monty, my sister went the whole way through her first pregnancy convinced she was having a girl, infact, everyone was convinced of it. The out popped a boy. They didn't have any boys names picked and hadn't even thought about them but by the time her husband came out to get me in the waiting room he had been named! No longer ...tobe! I would feel flattered if someone used my 'DD's name. It is quite common so couldn't really take offence!0

I would feel flattered if someone had the same name as mine but wouldn't want to have the same name as someone else's if they were close in age but older.

One of my first cousins shares my name. First name and surname as our father's are brothers. It still annoys me a bit!! It's a very common name, but still... Surely it was taken for that generation.
In my uncles defence there is a big age difference between me and my cousin, as well as between him and his brother (my father). Plus we lived in Australia and she in Ireland when she was born. My dad's one of nine and I have about 45 first cousins - but I still find it slightly strange when I run into her.0 -
Because my hubby's family are from Italy it seems that there's lots of people who are given the same name because it's a family name. In hubby's case it ended up almost getting him into problems because his cousin was called up for national service and hubby was over there on holiday and they thought it was him! Otherwise they have a habit of trying to force two names together to create a new name - not always for the best. One of his suggestions was Natalina - Natalie for my sister, Adelina for one of his sisters. It looks better written down than said but much as I'd like to get my sisters name in there somehow I didn't really like the way it sounded. Does that make sense?
I'm more than happy for family names to be middle names, which is what we have planned whatever the sex of the baby but it's nice if the child gets their 'own' first name.
Boy that was an essay! hope you enjoy your bank holidays, I found out that hubby was also working todaythough only for 6 hrs, but after working both days of the weekend for 12hrs each day I'm a little narked.

Natalina is a real italian name and I personally really like it
I have a cousin called it but it must be quite unusual in this country as I have never met anyone else called it. Her mum was italian.
