Did you tell the officer they made a simple mistake and cancelled the policy without notice when a query was made on the price of the insurance.

Probably looking to make sure its all legit. Not a friend of a friend in the office changing the info.

  • My daughter phoned the police today and was told the officer is not now on duty until Friday night, they say only he can deal with this and she must ring him at 10pm on Friday. I got mad and rang the police station and told them that while I appreciated that things take a while to sort out its two weeks since we handed the letter in and we were told it would be sorted out by last weekend. They say they will send the arresting officer an email to tell him he must phone us onfriday and copy the sergeant in on it. I'm so frustrated I just don't know how to proceed with this. I just want to know his decision what ever it is. If they're going to prosecute her I wish they would just send a bloody letter and get on with it, at least then out whole lives wouldn't be in limbo.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

It's never easy to contact police officers as they work shifts and these can often start at unsocial times. Like most people they tend not to like taking work calls when their not on duty

fair point but surely all that needs doing is policeman sends email to insurer with his concerns.....insurer responds.......policeman emails OP with decision

I struggle to see why voice contact is needed at all

You would think so but it's the police.

I would argue that "I am looking to" means "I am considering", rather than anything more conclusive

A very very long shot as magistrates are instructed they should not mess around with points to avoid the new drivers retest.

Not to say it's not worth a try though

This cant be true. I committed a 6 point speeding offence within my first 2 years of driving. I wrote a matter-of-fact grovel letter and referenced The Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995 with the associated license revocation and how this will affect my employment.

They issued me 5 points to make a point. Fortunately, car insurance firms only seem to deal with multiples of 3, so having 5 points cost me no more than having 3 points!

My only advice for court - don't let emotion drive your words and stick to fact. It is very important to talk about license revocation affecting employment and subtly suggest finding another job with such opportunity with limited (19yo) experience is not likely.

Bottom line is that there always seems to be flexibility when it comes to affecting work/job/employment. We read about fellow citizens in the news all the time who have clocked up 12+ points, but retain their license.

The magistrates are instructed not to play around with the points for new drivers subject to the new drivers act. This is so that the penalty of the new driver act is not affected by magistrates decisions.

It does not prevent a magistrate from reducing the points if they feel sorry for a driver but is increasingly less common now days as the DVLA are really applying pressure to magistrates
  • How long do the police have to actually send a summons (or whatever it is that they send)? We have had nothing formal since the notice he issued on the day .

    Police don't send summons.

They have 6 months to send details to the court who do issue summonses.
