A seller on facebook swears this is true!

She sold a baby item to an address in Somerset and has has an INR case opened. The explanation in the case is that buyer was prepared to pay a high premium on this item rather than buy direct from the high street as her village is currently cut off due to flooding and she is extremely unhappy that despite paying so much it has not arrived.

The facebook lady is braver than me as she has replied asking whether the post is still actually getting through at all as if she can't get out then the post surely can't get in...no response yet after 48 hours...

  • I once had an American buyer and I emailed her to let her know that I had posted her item.

She emailed back, saying she was confused as she had bought the item, so why had I posted it.

At that point, it dawned on me that the American for 'post' is 'ship' and that she thought I had reposted (ie relisted) the item in question.

Had another idiot contact me re the hi-fi, this one again asking 'Could I post it?' I replied through the questioning process on eBay 'No, it's COLLECTION ONLY as stated in the listing' his reponse was 'Yeah I saw that but I thought you might pull your finger out your a$$ and post it to me'

Yes he was reported to eBay for violation of rules! :p

If you look for conflict, you'll usually find it. Sounds like he'd already read the listing and all caps isn't needed either. Why not just say sorry, I would like to be able to, but I looked in to it and it's a lot of extra difficulties as I don't have a way to get it to the post office/few couriers insure these items/I really can't be available for a courier to collect any time soon. Or whatever else your actual reasons are.

Anyway, as for random questions, I'm now realising many people are using the eBay mobile app and not selecting all the menus to read all the details I've put in. Unfortunately, it's not very intuitive for some people.
  • if I'm after something and its collection only if they're local ill still ask if they can deliver - usually something gets sorted out and if they can't no big deal

if you don't ask you don't get

what I have found strange though is sellers listing items as collection only but then won't even give their postcode out!

I like to know I can get there before I bid so I'm not wasting people's time

Reminds me of when I gave away a old sewing machine inside a wooden table on Freecycle-the machine needed some TLC. Fully described, including weight & measurements.

Nice guy asked for it, organised collection time-on a dark evening. He arrived on time, all was looking good.....................then realised he'd ridden 20 miles to collect on a moped??????????!!!!!!!

In the end my OH was going past his house in a van, he dropped it off a week or so later.

  • I usually take a deep breath and answer daft questions from buyers politely as I know that if they are viewing listings on a mobile phone then sometimes the description either doesn't appear or is truncated (do wish ebay would fix that; I work hard on my descriptions!).

Sometimes however my jaw drops - I had a question a few days ago re a handbag I have for sale (which has the full measurements listed in inches and centimetres in both the description and the 'Item Specifics'):

"Hi, I don't really understand measurements lol - would you say the handbag is 'normal' sized?"

How do you define 'normal'? In the end, having scratched my head as to the best way to describe it to her, I wandered around the house looking for something the same size - the nearest was an Argos catalogue. She didn't buy in the end - maybe she found an Argos catalogue and ordered one from there instead!
