I swear people are getting more dense on Ebay by the week.

In the last week I've had
-A long message thanking me for an item, but next time could I not send it in polystyrene as they are scared of it (it was cut into block of it as it was delicate)
-Messaged someone 3 times to get their full address for an item, then ring them as they couldn't understand why I needed their house number to send the item to (there was about 80 houses down that road).
-Someone not understanding that I only have 1 of a particular item.
-Someone wanting me to drop off an item 30 miles away to save them 85p on postage (letter sized).

And as I have only sold 20 items this week, that's pretty good going.
Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.

the really worrying thing is that these people
    (a) - vote
    and (b) sit on juries
do you think it could be a result of the Care in the Community initiative?

I've had that today too. I asked for the house number and she replied "I don't have a house number but my mobile number is..."

I did recommend that they put a house number on to Ebay, and sure enough they still haven't.
I've had to risk sending it, I know this isn't a great idea as they can declare they haven't received it, but they are a mail order customer of my parents it turns out afterwards so we know we've got the real address. If they do scam me, they will be worse off as they won't be able buy off my parents anymore.

Did think about leaving them feedback along the lines of 'nice customer, shame they didn't understand they have to put a house name on a item that is posted'. Thought it was a little mean as they have hardly any feedback and clearly have no common sense.

Did get a message from someone also tonight accusing me of lying about sending their item, until I gave him the tracking number, and sent him a scan of the receipt/ proof of postage.

Another idiot - I have an item listed as 'collection only' and a polite note in the listing saying - cash on collection - please do not contact me about posting this, as a buyer will need to call in person and pay in cash after inspection.

Wait for it..and this is the exact message that came in...

'When you say collection only - will you collect it for me, I live in Manchester?

    When can you arrange delivery?'

What bit of collection only is hard to understand??!!

I swear it must be day release at the idiot house.

I've got a thick skin recently and now report any one with an incomplete/totally wrong address. Wastes my time having to double check if an address looks wrong. And in a street of 63 houses the chances of the postman knowing which house Kay lives at is remote. :silenced:

Just wish eBay would go with the system used by many online retailers: input postcode and then confirm the house number with the street and town details pulled through from Royal Mail. Would be much easier.

You think that's bad, I run a real-life new and second hand shop.

You would not believe the idiots I have to deal with.

Yesterday a man walks in. Touches a black t-shirt. "Is this a plain black t-shirt, is this the only size, have you got any more?". There were 20 on display, in S, M, L, XL.

After composing myself for a few seconds, I replied "why don't you open your eyes and look before asking me unnecessary questions". Queue laughter from regular customers, and a sheepish look from the idiot, sorry customer.

Or the people that summon me only to ask "how much?" then THEY point at the price and say "£15?". What can I say to that? It says £15. I just turn around and walk away.

There is being clever, and there is being unnecessarily rude.

With that attitude, your shop will undoubtedly fail.

I agree. We had a baby items shop open up locally, the owner was as rude as that and they were gone within the year.

She actually wrote to the local paper and complained that smaller shops like here were losing out to the mega stores and it wasn't fair (I could almost here the stamping of feet) .

I went in once, my God Daughter was looking for a particular sort of mattress and cover for an older cot, I know nothing about the new baby stuff so I went in and read out the text part of the message my GD had sent. She told me to go and bl**dy look myself as she was busy (the shop though was empty as usual) . I explained I had no idea what I was looking for and perhaps she could help me, but she basically told me to go back when I had a clue.

In the end Mothercare found my GD details of a stockist and they ordered it in for her ..so yes, she did lose out to the mega buyers.

I think that is true of a lot of shops. In the town I live in, go in an independently owned shop at lunch time and you will be hit with various food smells as the owner sits at the till eating their lunch. Make the mistake of actually trying to buy something and hand them money and they look of hatred they give you will make sure you never return. Then when they close the council gets blame for not supporting local business.
