Chris25 wrote:I do this on a low heat but only with glass or ceramic, not lead crystal.
I have a friend who washes all her crystal glasses, decanters and vases, once a year and they come up beautifull shiny. So I decided to try a lead crystal vase - I opened the door, the vase shone like......well, like crystal and as I picked it up out of the dishwasher, it broke into thousands of pieces all over the floor!!!
Even though I washed it on low, I learned not to do it again. I did wonder though......................even though my friend and I both used low settings, whether there is any difference in the temp. Some ovens run hotter than others so perhaps dishwashers do too.
I wish this would happen to our vase :rolleyes:Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Does anyone know how to get my glasses (drinking) sparkly again? We put them in and they have come out with what looks like chalk residue marks round them. They are clean they have just lost there sparkle and look dull etc.
Thank you for any help.

Welcome to MoneySaving
First of all you could check that your rinse aid dispenser is full and that you've topped up the salt lately.
Just washing them by hand in soapy water often helps.
There'll be someone along to suggest a vinegar cocktail in a minute- but if all else fails, expensive though it is - I buy one of those special "dishwasher cleaner" bottles you see on the shelf next to the tablets. You're supposed to clean the machine empty but I put all my glassware in and it comes up a treat.

Monkeygirl - I hope they weren't your best glasses, because I don't think what you're describing will come off. We have some el-cheapo pint glasses that have gone all cloudy - I think it's something to do with the fact that D/W'ing them brings out one of the components in the glass (lead?) Only seems to happen to the cheapy glasses - I have washed others including my Brierley Crystal glasses in the D/W and they are fine. We don't care about the pint pots - only for Mr TM to drink his squash out of.
Edit: Woo Hoooo ...... 1000th post :j :money: :j0 -

I put my dish cloth in the dishwasher, as it gives it a boil wash. I just fold it up and put it on the top rack. Comes out reall clean.Liz xx0

No they weren't our best only semi best I got upset by it as it also took the gold pattern off that went around the rim of them
.
I have checked the salt and rinse aid and it didn't seem to make a difference. We also adjust it somehow and set it for a hard water area rather than its defult setting. I may try one of those cleaners thank you squeaky.
I'm pleased it isn't only me its happend to then. Well done on your post count Ticklemouse - love the name by the way0 -
OK - but really... try washing one by hand in washing up liquid. If it's just chalky residue and not the chemical leaching mentioned earlier (fingers crossed) they should come up OK.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
