  • You shouldn't have any salt residue on your dishes etc once they've been through a wash, Did some of the salt land on the bottom of the dishwasher, did you put the lid of the salt holder thingy back on properly - I forgot once and my dishes came out in a right state! Check that the rinse hose hasn't got a kink in it, there may be too much salt in the machine, other than that I've no idea

  • we set our dishwasher to medium (live in yorks) i never put in more than 0.5kg at a time of dishwasher salt it will tell me when it wants more. I use separate rinse aid and liquid detergent - no build up and far more cheaper than the all in one things. also once you put salt in you need to run a cycle on empty to get rid of any residue
  • Ok thanks everyone! Yes maybe its because some salt got in the actual machine when we filled the chamber with salt. The salty bits do seem to be getting less now, I was just concerned about eating it!

I've just worked my way through the 9 pages of useful info on this thread, another goodie started by Squeaky. Thanks Squeaky, you left such a lot to this community :)
I would like to add my 2 tips for alternative use of the dishwasher. I've just realised that I can pop foods that need defrosting in there. (Don't forget about them though!)
I also use the top shelf as a drainer for large items that get washed by hand during baking sessions, which frees up worktop space. (Often need to re-use tins, whisks etc.)
Can I ask about one mention of using vinegar as a rinse aid please? I understood that you didn't need rinse aid now as it's contained in the tablets?
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
