Well - shock horror! I wash up as I cook. Thank God I don't have to watch either Eastenders or Coronation Street - gave up the television as there was less than one programme a night I wanted to watch.

I AM saying that I personally find the cost to the environment and to people's pockets is indefensible.

Wow what a response, you should try the arms:(

I was only saying what I love about my DW.

No need to use the old "shock horror" & then castigate me for watching a soap.
I don't think DWs are indefensible.
The new Bosch (my next one) uses less water than a sink of water.

I don't put glasses in the dishwasher.
Not because my glasses are posh, but because I put EVERYTHING else in & there is no room left & they are the easiest thing to wash.

Its full size, but its a poor design. Its a Hotpoint one just over 5 years old.

    Crap layout inside.

I want to get a new super energy efficient one, will prob save a lot on better loading too;)

If you are going to quote selectively from what I said perhaps you should also note that I stated 'I am NOT saying that people should not have the choice to spend their money on expensive machines and their use.' Whether you have a dishwasher or not is your choice I merely questioned in my original response why anyone would need one. To date nothing has yet convinced me that my life would be improved by owning one so my question has been answered. Incidentally the 'shock horror' phrase was a reference to an earlier post.

I quoted selectively the bits I was responding too, nothing was meant by it. It was a long post & I wasn't addressing each sentence.

    You said this

You don't! Just curious why anyone would need one. I am not being flippant - this is a serious question. Considering this is an old style thread it seems to me that a dishwasher, along with a dryer, are things we have managed quite well without and, unless catering or running a b and b or something like that I can't see the need.
I have friends with dishwashers and I could have washed the dishes myself in the time it took them to prepare the dirty crockery for the wash, load the thing, wait and then put away.

I told you my two top reasons
I didn't expect such a sharp response to a friendly post:(

I wouldn't dream of being snidy about your choice NOT to have one, please show others the same respect.
  • Ok to move away from the unhelpful comments- can any of the dishwasher devotees help me out with a few tips?

I love having a dishwasher but both dishwashers we have had (both slimline due to lack of space) have occasionally had terrible problems leaving brown residue on mugs/glasses in particular- which I assume is food residue. Once it is stuck on, the dishwasher won't wash it off so I have to take everything out and handwash it which is obviously not at all energy-efficient!

We use 5 in 1 tablets so assumed I didn't need to add salt/rinse aid as that would be overdoing it, although we live in London which I think is very hard water. Does everyone rinse everything before it goes in?

    Hope someone can help!
