Hi all, towards the middle of this year I will be retiring from the rat race. I would have been at my employment for about 3 1/2 years by then. Over the past 18 months there are one or two people that have been a pain in the backside to say the least.
On my last day I want to send an email to all staff thanking them for their help and friendship, but I also want include the fact that there are a few who have been T***S. and I intend to name names and the fact that amongst other things they have been bullies, liars and vindictive. I want to name the people so that it will bring major embarrassment to the culprits. Now, my question is I KNOW that everything I am going to write is true but where do I stand legally?

Take the 'retirement gold watch', enjoy your leaving do, and go with dignity.

If you are retiring then none of it will affect you any more.

The only one who will feel embarrassed is you when you are sacked for gross misconduct, and instead of receiving your retirement money you get nothing.

Sacked when retired!! thats a new one. As pensions go I have nothing to come from them, my pensions are already taken care of. I have the final weeks pay to come and it will be worth that.

Thats not strictly true because on talking to the majority of people they also have had runnings with these people but they have a lot to lose by making waves, and when they have spoken out they have suffered.

It's sacked before retiring if you are still employed at the time, and even if you retire before sending that email, do expect to be sued for libel. Something defaming of this scale is bound to get you a lawsuit. You might end up using your pension money and savings to compensate everyone you mention in your email. If you embarrass management in front of their entire company, the only way to salvage their authority and reputation is by suing you to set an example.

And so you want to get them back by being just like them?

As others have said, if you have the evidence, then take out a grievance. If you can't or won't do that, then leave quietly with dignity. Sending an e-mail like that doesn't reflect badly on anyone but you, it just gives everyone the impression that you are spineless and spiteful.

The best revenge is to live well.

  • If you do that, then nothing will happen apart from people saying 'if she had any issues when working here, she should have taken out a grievance'...and thinking you are a mad old bat. It also makes you look like you are weak willed in the workplace, and anyone else taking out a grievance could be accused of having it put into their heads by your email...which will work against the bullies.

Am surprised at the amount of people who let bullies and the like off so easily, Always makes me wonder how many employers answer on this forum........Wait for it.
