Found a used car

Prior to my earlier thread, thread I have found a nice used Fiesta I can buy for just 1100. They guy sounds genuin, he talks wryly about his love of Saabs and how he "does anti corrosion work on the sills of all the cars that pass through him" He's openly given out the address of his garage and his home address, although it would says he only takes cash or "internet cheques" (what is that?). It's it's a 2000 model Fiesta Ghia, 1 owner full history only 48,000 miles 1095, does that sound too cheap or about right?

There are newer examples on Autotrader at half the price.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

I seem to remember it was my mum and her bloke who originally bought my 96 Fiesta for themselves at the start of 08 it was 40k miles at the time and they paid just over 2 grand.

So they paid too much for a car like you're considering doing. As has been said, you could get that car for half the price with a bit if shopping around.

Agreed it is far too expensive and should be much much less.

    Find something else :)
  • expensive. and TBH I don't overly trust you description of guy who does "trade" repairs selling it privately.

a while back there was 2002 fiesta ghia in my area with 66k and good in condition with a folder with every receipt the car had money spent on it down to bolt and washers screen wash fluid etc £895.00 your £1095 is way over that too expensive.

As others have mentioned, the price is still a bit too high.
Perhaps go and view and make a lower offer. Tops for a 1.1 2000 plate Fiesta from me would be about £800 and i'd need to really like Fiesta's on top of that.

The sill work the seller is talking about just sounds like sales banter to me but i might be wrong.

I'd like those little Fiestas a lot more if it wasn't for the rust factor

  • Yeah my Fiesta is full of rust it's such a shame. 1998 1.3 Finesse. £350 bought a year ago. :)

I went too look at it, it's not bad, a few scratches and it's had a small weld done on the sill, however it looks like the weld was done properly as it's been painted over same colour as the car and not just covered with Tetrosyl. Guy seems alright, no where near as (for want of a better word) itimidating as some used car salesmen.
Am I not paying more because he's a dealer though and has a 3 month warranty, he is also offering me £200 for my old Fiesta.

rule of thumb with this age fiesta, its been welded and will proabably need welding every MOT.

welding needed anchor points welding needed subframe welded needed sill again, welded needed fuel cap welding needed battery tray welding needed slam panel, that's the trend year after year with these fiesta's each requiring £150-300 worth of welding. there are ones out there with no welding in better shape than the one you describe, £200 for yours is scrap plus £20 for the fuel left in it plus tax you give him to reclaim back.
