I reckon HM pizza is probably our cheapest. I think I costed out making the dough in the breadmaker as about 25p for 2 x 12" bases. Ball of mozzarella aroud 45p. Passata about 30p (only use about half the pack). So 2 large cheese & tomato pizzas for about £1. Usually end up putting various toppings on there - cooked meats, veggies, herbs maybe but still probably only amounts to an extra £1 of topping.0

Good thread
Lamb stew is my nutritious and cheap meal.
Ingredients:
I buy neck of lamb (with bones on) from the butchers, he chops them into cutlet type shape. I say how much I want to spend and usually £2/£2.50 gets enough.
Stew pack (or whatever root veg you enjoy of carrots, parsnips - swede is cheaper I think per kg, onions, leeks)
Stock (ideally home made)
Fry the meat, add onions/leeks. Add stew pack root veg and stock. Then cook slowly. Always some left over for the next day or the freezer.
I think we often forget that at butchers we can say can I have 3 slices or so many of pounds in cash of that. Afterall we should be eating only so much meat.

And you can also do that at butcher counters in supermarkets. I never buy pre-packed raw/cooked meats and also get most of my cheeses, pies and other deli products from the counters (when I can't get to the farmer's markets).“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Garlic chili spagetti is warming and satisfying, so quick to make too
Spagetti - 89c (about 25c a serving)
Garlic - (50c a bulb, 4 cloves about 30c?)
Olive oil (around €4-5 a bottle, probably 20c a serving or less)
Dried chilies (bought in bulk €6, 10-15c a serving)
So a meal costs around €1 on avg!0 -
Hi all,
I am quite good (if I say so myself) at keeping our grocery bill down, but wondered if you could tell me the cheapest meal you cook?
I thought it might help to inspire me to try new things (My Husband is quite fussy as is my Daughterso I am often restricted in what I can cook).
I would say one of my cheapest is home-made bacon quiches:
Ingredients:
Flour - 4p
Marg - 11p
1 egg (From farm stall) - 7p
1 brown onion - 10p
1/2 pack Tesco value cooking bacon - 37p
Grating of cheese - 30p
Total - 99p.
This makes enough bacon pies for my Husband, myself and our 2 children (aged 1 and 3).
I usually team with mashed potato (estimated cost 40p) and veg (estimated cost £1) or beans (cost 48p).
I would love to hear your lowest cost recipe(s) and hope it will give me some ideas! :T
Thanks.

Spaghetti 500g - 24p
Passatta 500g - 29p
0.25 tube tom puree - 12p
Dried mixed herbs 2g (about 0.1 pot) - 2p
50g grated parmesan style cheese - 60p
Feeds 4-6 adults for between 21-32p/portion. Can easily be added to and will then feed more, will also feed more if you eat less than us! I change it a lot. Used tinned toms, fresh toms, add different herbs, garlic/onion/bacon, mince, tvp etc. Chilli is good to add too.Put the kettle on.0 -
easy peasy old fashioned egg and chips costs less than 80p per head including a slice of bread and butter and a cup of tea0
