Iceland are doing faggots at 79p at the moment. Was going to get some this morning but they'd run out!

Far better to go and find your local pork butcher - MUCH nicer than the commercially produced ones and still dirt cheap - just don't tell the kids what actually goes in them LOL0 -
Gtreat thread!!
Best cheapest meal is jacket potatoes - I choose one large or a few medium sized each, scrub them well as we like the skins, roast till softish (I microwave for a few minutes to get them started). Then cut in two so you get two oval halves. Scrape out most of white part using a teaspoon. Mix soft white potato with cheese, cooked bacon or ham bits, a bit of chopped onion or young onion, sweetcorn, peas, chopped pepper, whatever is handy and tasty. Heap back into skins, sprinkle with thin grated cheese, and pop under grill until lightly browned. Serve with baked beans or salad.
I always buy C$$p potatoes as they always seem to be fresh.
We love macaroni cheese too, always top it with sliced tomatoes, sprinkled lightly with a few crushed corn flakes and thin grated cheese before browning to make a nice crust.0 -
My cheapest meal is pasta with breadcrumbs, there are lots of variations, it's extra cheap for me as I use HG chilli & garlic.

Our fave cheap meal is macaroni cheese - we use value ingredients from Tesco including a tub of plan cream cheese to make the sauce and it turns out lush each time!
All we do is cook the pasta, then once drained add a tin of sweetcorn to it, plus a sauce made up from said cream cheese with a splash of milk added and some grated cheese.
The whole lot goes in an ovenproof dish then we lay some more cheese over, chuck it in the oven until the cheese has gone golden and crisp - FIT!
Oh yes, we also serve it with a stick of garlic bread between us - value of course, only 32p and tastes lovely! They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

my familys favourite cheap and quick dinner (there are 5 of us) is cook any kind of pasta, drain and stir in some grated cheese so that it starts to melt, dont even need to bother making a cheese sauce. Then add any size can of tuna flaked up with a fork, then add either frozen (but obv cook it ) or tinned & drained sweetcorn, a bit of black pepper and a knob of butter or marg and its done. Ive had this on the table in under 15 minutes and my 17yr old son literally scoffs plates and plates of it.0

Cheesey bread and butter pudding - like a sweet bread and butter pudding, but made with cheese (and tomato if you like) instead of dried fruit. Very filling and soooooo comforting on cold days. Real 'nursery food'.Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Hi all,
I made a super cheap meal yesterday, and couldn't resist telling you OSers about it!
It was toad in the hole with broccoli, carrots and cauliflower, baby new potatoes (roasted) and gravy! YUM!
The cost?
Whoopsied sausages 30p for 12!!!!!
Whoppsied Bag mixed, prepped veg 23p
Whoopsied Potatoes bag of 10p
egg 10p for 1
milk 20p
Gravy 10p
so for the princely sum of £1.03 my family of 4 had a nice hearty sunday luncheon! Oh, and we had try me free snickers (which, we are trying free) for pud!:money:
Has anyone done a family dinner cheaper?

Hi sfg,
I've added your post into our current thread on cheapest meals to keep the recipes and ideas together.
Today we are having tomato soup made with four whoopsied punnets of tomatoes costing 10p each and homemade wheaten bread with bargain cheese from Tesco. Total cost for eight portions will be £1.50.
