I buy our food from Amazon on their "subscribe and save" scheme, its Burns fish and rice, 15kg for £41.70 - including a 5% discount for subscribing, (I actually pay less than that because it was on 10% discount for signing up when I signed up), and it just comes every month without me thinking about it.

    Competition wins:
2013. Three bottles of oxygen! And a family ticket to intech science centre. 2011. The Lake District Cheese Co Cow and bunny pop up play tent, cheese voucher, beach ball and cuddly toy cow and bunny and a £20 ToysRus voucher!
  • I have used petzilla and found them to be very competitive on price and if you spend over £10 you get free postage. You can't say fairer than that!

I'm getting a 2-3 year old cat from cat protection this week and have bought quite a few bits but they mention flea treatment and worming treatments. I'm reading through the insurance thread trying to make up my mind

Can anyone recommend effective and affordable treatments for fleas and worms?

    :)

Frontline or Advantage for fleas and Drontal or Milbemax for worms. Or, you could use Advocate which treats both fleas and worms (apart from tapeworm). If your cat frequently catches and eats small rodents/birds then you will also need to treat for tapeworm with the Drontal or Milbemax but not at the same time as using Advocate.

And a good flea protection for your home (lasts 12mths) is either Vetkem Acclaim or Indorex.

  • mr. pets is the cheapest i kno for pet meds (go direct to their website, not thru Tesco/Amazon).
medicanimal will give u £5 if u recommend someone else and they buy.

Bowmeows had the cheapest eukanuba/royal canin dry dog food for a long time and their delivery was extremely fast. But prices seem to vary constantly with new pet food suppliers springing up all the time.

If u have a specific pet food, best to google it for the current cheapest offers, inc. postage.

Pets at Home are slow with their free delivery option. I would wait at least 5 working days for them.
  • we have used pooch by post (cant post a link as im a new member) all the staff have always been happy to help us, all came quick and really cheap, cant fault them at all :)

Burns & Logic actually cheapest ordering online from my local vets - they are in the next street to me - they let me know when it's in the surgery & I collect! John Hankinson. More expensive buying direct from them however - I found this out just prior to going on holiday & needing Feliway for my cats.

Just discovered that Zooplus is cheaper (arrrggh), will plan ahead & get bulk litter & food next time around - so I can get free delivery.

ZooPlus are fab but i've switched to Pet Supermarket. I only want 3 bags of litter (food comes via Amazon Subscribe & Save) and with the free delivery going up from £19 to £25 the odd toy to get free delivery is not going to cut it. A shame because they are so good.
Pet Supermarket's prices are inclusive of delivery, use DPD for bulk items so better than ParcelForce 24 from Germany, although they always used to arrive promptly.
If I still got just the litter from Zoo Plus and paid the delivery charge am taking pence better off and as the courier is better i've taken my business elsewhere.
  • Milbemax for worms.

This is a good product and easy for your cat to swallow (small oval shaped pill) but it is a prescription drug.

You will need to get it from the vet or ask them to write out a prescription for your cat. The vet is allowed to charge a small fee for this (usually £6 - £10) so you have to off set this cost against the saving you make in getting elsewhere. You can then use an on-line pharmacy to supply the drug on presenting them with the vet prescription.

Just be careful to make sure you are using a UK registered and hence UK regulated vet pharmacy, otherwise who knows what you will actually be supplied, the medication may actually harm you animal. You can tell if the pet pharmacy is UK registered by seeing if they have green rectangular logo with a registration number on their website linking to the General Pharmaceutical Council. IF they are run by a vet they can also legally dispense vet drugs too eg Viovet are like this. I looked into once to convince myself.
