I would LOVE a detached house so we can get a dog0

Hi ND, would you consider a loft conversion and a conservatory on your current house, it would be considerably less money than moving? We spent years thinking about moving away to get a bigger house , and last year got the loft converted and it has cured me of wanting to move, I love the big space and we are glad we didn't move from the area as it is perfect for us and the kids. (The rest of the house is still a work in progress though
)

Interesting idea. Is your house at all suitable for that, ND? Or wouldn't there be space for it? Is there any kind of wall or fence with access to somewhere useful, where you could install a side gate? I once lived in a rented house where there was an obvious and idea place to put a side gate into an otherwise blank brick wall between, get this, the back garden of the house and its garage and allocated parking space. If I'd owned the place, I'd have had somebody in to knock down a section of wall and put a gate in, but of course since it was rented I couldn't.
Extensions are a pain, but they do save on stamp duty, and even if you increase the value of the property, you get to continue paying CTax at the original rate, and it only gets revalued when the property changes hands.
Agree about the dog - I've had a dog in a semi and also in a terrace. Weirdly, I can't remember having the dog in the terraced townhouse at all - no idea where the dog basket was kept when I visualise the house at all. However, I know we had a dog from before we moved into that house until after we moved on to the next place, so the dog basket must have been somewhere!!Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

There is nowhere for a side gate, I live in an end terrace and the house the other side has a lean to onto the side of my house
The parking is the biggest bugbear for me here and it will only get worse as we are getting new neighbours and more cars fighting for spaces. A friend visited tonight and they had to park half way down the road.
I did think of a loft conversion here (not sure where the stairs would go tho) and a conservatory but my garden isnt huge although it wouldnt be too bad as I dont use the garden a lot anyway. I also thought about extending the kitchen sideways but not sure it would be worth it. There is so much I would love to do but then think it would be just easier to move lol.
We did the walk to the house and it took us 20 mins, there is no way the kids would want to do that every day.
I am so spoilt with the room sizes in my house, my bedroom is 16ft x 12ft and the 2nd bedroom is 14ft x 12ft (the boxroom lets us down v.small!) The lounge is 22ft long too. I should really be grateful for what I have got instead of moaning about what I dont!MFW 16 No 33

Me
I moved from a very busy life working at Heathrow and driving the M25 every day
To North Norfolk in 2001I love it and would never consider moving back ever.
I live about 2 miles inland between Sheringham and Cromer.
It was an eyeopener when I moved here and realised nobody was interested in where you live or what car you drive.
The lifestyle is still so laid back and there is still no keeping up with the Jones's
The work is here but mainly pretty low paid and a lot can be seasonal.
I have a detached house with loads of land and can see no neighbours from my house.:T
The prices of houses are really going up here now and I would never be able to afford my house now.
Go for it and keep that dream alive and I am sure like me you will never regret itGood luck

just to throw my opinion in.......I LOVE Norfolk and I have lived here for just over 24 years!!!! I am in North Norfolk, tiny little village, no street lights, on oil and over 20 miles from Norwich....its fab!!:j
For me, its a beautiful, quiet, idyllic lifestyle which allows me to be the hermit I want to beUnlike other people who have commented...I have lived in my current house for 15 years almost, I only know the names of my two immediate neighbours and I know no-one else in the village at all!! I knew more neighbours when I lived in Norwich than I do here - that's why I love the place
I can go for weeks before I even catch sight of any of my neighbours and walk the beach frequently without seeing another soul.....Bliss!!
Driving in Norfolk is another matter......lots of farm traffic around and everything is quite a trek...however, it's something that you get used to very quickly! However, the inability to use car indicators in Norfolk is something which I have never become used to....but that's probably because I used to drive an awful lot for work!!
The one thing that always strikes me as strange here is the fact that many people have never lived anywhere else and tend to have huge amounts of family members who also live locally!! Not a problem for me as I am totally anti-social, but I would imagine that there could be difficulties if an inappropriate comment about someone slipped out after a few too many beverages!!;)
Flooding - not really a problem unless you are right on the coast....I live a mile away from the beach and have never had any issues at all....I believe (although this may be incorrect) that Norfolk is one of the driest counties in England, so unless there is a tidal surge and you live right on the beach, flooding isn't really an issue.....
Basically, what I am saying is do it!! It's amazing!!:DMortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913

ICTD thanks for your comments, I am a bit of a hermit too! I love the beach and the ideal place is a deserted beach watching the waves come in. I do like my own company BUT I do want to change that and be part of a nice village community. I have taken on board what someone mentioned though about outsiders coming in and trying to take over. I will definitely not be one of those people as I can be quite shy but would like to get involved with things going on. (whether that will change or I will stay a hermit is another matter but I want to try - I have been a single mum for so long that I dont know how to socialise!)
North or west norfolk is where I am looking. It wont be for another 6 or so years but if I could I would move tomorrow. I still look at houses even though I know its not possibleJust teasing myself)
I am going to do loads of visiting of different villages from now on and get the better feel for places.
The next weekend free I am going to 'pop' overMFW 16 No 33

I keep changing my mind all the time, the floods scare me a bit and have gone into my 'cons' listI live on the highest point in Norfolk so if we flood here then god help the rest of Norfolk
West Norfolk is very much Fen country so maybe rethink where you want to move too.I can recommend North Norfolk but do have friends in West but this side of Lynn think Gayton, Terrington type area and they love it.
Good luck with what ever you decide.
