  • I dont live near them now although I am only an hour away I would probably be more like 2-3 hours away depending on which side I move to.
I am so used to being on my own and coping on my own it wouldnt make a difference to me in the slightest, I probably see them about once a month at the moment. Who knows might take my mum with me haha (actually dont think she would leave her town she has been living in all her 70 years!)

  • Back to early morning routine this week. Enjoyed my extra half hour in bed last week, didnt get to sleep last night til 1.30  and up at 7am :(

Have been thinking about whether to start saving for doing my kitchen (as it just winds me up now) seeing as my 10% limit is very limiting ;) I was going to use the 10% and then save to op in the next 12 months and OP a huge lump sum again. But have been thinking that Im not really saving too much in interest by OPing anymore as the total is quite low now.
My normal plan was to OP and get it paid off in two years and then save the third year to get my kitchen and bathroom done.
If I do it the other way I would still be done in 3 years but get the kitchen done quicker.
Its quite fun looking at different designs and want to see innovations to make my small kitchen better. (need more cupboard and worktop space.)
As it stands at the mo my mortgage finishes Nov 16 (33 payments) I want to get that down by 11 payments
The thing is I have been OPing for nearly 5 years and its become a very big part of my life and a huge habit to stop haha. I love seeing the mortgage total go down every month.

  • I'm umming and ahhing about a new kitchen too ND. I'm torn as I want to see the end of my debts but if that's realistically going to take 8 years at least, can I cope with a scummy kitchen for 8 years? Probably not!!!!
Cooking and baking is something I want to get back into as I enjoy it so much. Having a nasty kitchen is such a stopper!! I've no space!!

My friend sent me a kitchen company brochure where I could get an ex demo one for sub £1200. I've only got a small kitchen so I might even get more off. No harm in investigating!!

I suppose what I'm saying is I like your thinking!

  • I wouldnt mind an ex demo at that price! I like that idea, might look into that!

  • Threw another £100 at the mountain this evening, if my calcs are right I only have about £740 left on my limit until it starts again in Aug.

Been looking at places to visit in Norfolk and composing a list of where I want to visit, most of it seems to be ruins, churches and old historic buildings accidentally.
Really want to go and visit Norwich Cathedral but might save that for when I go on my own without the kids.

Looking at the time my trying to get to bed before midnight has only happened once in the last fortnight :( I really need to stop faffing around on the lappy and get some proper sleep.

Hi ND, really glad I've stumbled across your diary! Its not got too long yet so I have managed to read it all and can keep up with your progress! :T
Your reasons for paying off your mortgage are the same as mine (I want to move to Cornwall in the next 7 - 10 years) and I too would go tomorrow if I could afford it/ didn't have issues with separation from kids other parent!

I tell everyone who wants to listen (and a lot who don't) that I'm planning on moving down there and everyone has an opinion. A lot are negative to be fair (locals aren't welcoming, packed during holiday season, dead during out of season etc) but everybody is different and it sounds like your of the same frame of mind as myself, I want to go down there be part of the community and embrace that way of life instead of many I imagine who go down there for the sea but still want their lifestyle from up here. As long as you do plenty of research on locations you want to live in and jobs etc, and your situation is right, then you need to just do it - after all you only get one shot at life!

    Good luck!

    This sums it up perfectly!!

I'd go to the coast every weekend if I could. I am even contemplating buying a caravan but need to look into that more.
I too tell everyone that one day I will live in Norfolk (apart from work) They mostly just laugh at me, tell me I am ridiculous, there is nothing to do there. I am hoping to start going there more often so i can get to know the locals before I move and then might be welcomed more. I already chat to a few on their local FB page but seeing their photos makes me want to go more haha.

Good Luck with yours, be nice to watch your progress too :D

That quote is brilliant! I looked into maybe getting a caravan down there but it was very expensive and would have worked out a lot cheaper for me to just have 3 weeks down there on a proper site. Unfortunately its a good 5 or 6 hours drive from where I am so I wouldn't get to use it anywhere near as much as I would like!

Chatting to locals on local FB pages sounds like a great idea! :T

  • Ah luckily I am only about 2.5 hours away so even a daytrip is feasable for me. But I do think buying a caravan probably wont be cost effective unless I am to use it every weekend or am able to rent it out to pay the site fees. I dont think I could afford that and the petrol (maybe once a month :) )
Was even thinking about having unpaid leave but thats probably taking it too far and probably wouldnt be allowed in the job I do.
