Sorry, can't help on the tax....don't know anything about it!!
Redundancy, well, he should get a notice period and also a pay out at the end if he has worked there long enough....try this link:

I found it quite useful when I was told I my job was at risk last year......

You are a basic rate taxpayer so any extras you earn should be taxed at 20%. If you got £232 extra, you should have paid an extra £40.40 in tax. Depending on how the rules work, there might also be some extra NI, and/or extra pension contribution.
Of course, if they've only just realised they've been undertaxing you every month since April, then yes, they might collect all the extra in one go. The only way to find out is to go and see the payroll people at your work and ask them to explain it to you.
Good luck.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Well bad news on the tax. It was right, my FD called me in the office to explain it
orrible taxman
Bank a/c starts March on a minusUnless I dont pay the second part of the small break holiday until next month but then would probably be in the same situ again I suppose.
Work have asked if I want to do overtime, while this would be great to earn a bit of extra money I think I would lose it in tax cred so therefore working for no extra money. Im not sure how much more I can earn before they change it. Does anyone know?
I'm full of questions this week.MFW 16 No 33

Well had a look at the tax credit thing and the disregard is £5000 before things will change (although there is only one month left anyway) The only thing is what I then earn in the following year (2014) will be worked out on my wages AND overtime earned so next year (2015) will be affected
So either way its a lose lose situ
It makes me sound lazy but I am not working more hours to come out with the same money. I'd be crazy to.MFW 16 No 33

Seriously, who would do more hours to come out with the same? Can you devote more time instead to your sideline - can you promote it on local FB pages etc?A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I do enough of that at the moment and it takes up a lot of time already. I am designing new stuff to do so hope to get a bit more dosh coming in.
I do feel guilty though not doing overtime as we are busy and my colleague will be doing some.
My manager is going to ask if I can have the time in Lieu but she said it kind of defeats the object of catching up with work as there is never a slow period really. I normally work 20 mins over most days so I might do half hour lol and get paid for it.Thats my offer haha.

Well DD got me up early this morning, not on purpose, she slept in with me last night as we were watching TV in bed and her phone went off at 8am  on a blooming Sunday! Not happy, it physically made me jump out of bed haha. She then grumbled turned over and went back to sleep (where she still is now  )
I have done one load of washing and has been put up to dry, I have a bit of a list to get on with today (not too much strain!)
* Clean kitchen and floor
* Clean lounge and hoover
[STRIKE]* Do another load of washing[/STRIKE]
* Take dog on long walk[STRIKE]
* Make meal plan for month[/STRIKE][STRIKE]
* Make shopping list from plan[/STRIKE] and go shopping
* Sell some items on ebay / get items ready to post for tomorrow
* Do ironing for the week (hate ironing with a passion)
* Sort out shower shelf tier thingy bought yesterday
* sort out paperwork on comp table (been putting off for since xmas
* Make a note of all account/reference numbers in one easy access place (been meaning to do this for a while as well!)
* Make HM bird feeder (bottle has been sitting with the wooden spoons alongside the birdfeed for 2 weeks)
* Put DDs bunting up (ashamed to say she has had this since before xmas)
* Panic at the list being longer than you thought it would be
When I started this list I thought it would only be a couple of things until it went on and on.
I might do the paperwork items over the next weekbut I've typed it now and hopefully that should make me do it and it would be nice to see my office space again!!
Was looking at my SS for my mortgage yesterday to see if it was better to save my OPs in a high interest rate account but it shows that every £100 I OP I save £7.31 in interest and I dont have enough savings to make that up in interest at the moment.
Happy Sunday everyoneMFW 16 No 33

I have been thinking about using Etsy but dont know anything about the site, does anyone use it and is it better than fleabay?
Just browsing through the MFW diaries and saw this so thought I'd post as I've been selling on Etsy since 2009, first with handmade jewellery and now vintage books and history-inspired badges.
Frankly, I'm advising people to steer clear of Etsy. It's become so oversaturated that it's more and more difficult for anyone to make any money from it. Loads of shops that have good reputations and several years of high sales are reporting a huge drop, and there's a lot of complaints in the forums from new shops that are struggling to make themselves known. It's a mess, primarily caused by Etsy constantly bringing in new sellers by advertising itself as "the place to earn an income through your creative talents" but rarely putting itself out as "the place to BUY unique items". Instead it depends on the sellers to bring buyers in, and we're really struggling to do so.
You need to have top-class photos, a decent knowledge of SEO not mention a lot of products (minimum of 50) just to be approaching the level of "being seen". It's difficult, and it's not going to get easier.
Depending on your craft I think you'll be better off doing craft markets and the like, especially with summer coming up and then Christmas afterwards. Back when I was making jewellery I did a market in my village which is only ever held once a year. £20 for a table, if memory serves I made around £65 that day, while at the time I had been on Etsy for months and only had 1 sale. This was a good few years ago, before the wheels were starting to fall off.
I know this sounds like a massive downer, and if you have the energy and the initial outlay then by all means give Etsy a go, some of the articles on it are useful and the forums are a mine of information. It's just the difference between how Etsy sells itself and the reality is far greater than most people realise
Good luck with the MF journey!0 -
