  • Thanks for your fear post. I thought that was a type of thinking that only I indulged in. The worst thing is that because it's so irrational, it can prompt a downward spiral. Well done for dealing with reality rather than the scary imaginary world and thank you for sharing. I'll hopefully feel less isolated now

Ah The Fear is a big gob!!!!! isn't it? I loathe it. But then I get on my own nerves because I believe it and you're right, IND - I deffo get what you describe as a downward spiral, whereby everything seems to disintegrate and crumble!! Today it was as though The Fear was laughing horribly at me, saying 'how stupid are you to think you can climb out of this mess?!'

If any of my friends or family spoke about themselves like this, I would do all I could to talk them round. But apparently it's OK to speak to myself like this?!

If any of this resonates with you then please feel free to chat about it here - I can deffo empathise and thank you for sharing too!

All of us can tell The Fear to sod off and do one. I will shake my wild head of hair at it and it will run off crying to it's mum (who, by the way is Panic Attack! If she shows her face, I will kill her ;) ) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Thanks hon, for me the mum is more paralysis than panic attack. I feel fear and then become incapable of doing anything at all as I'm convinced that nothing will work. I've a wonderful OH who moves things along by making me break down what I need to get done and by forcing me to take breaks rather than go hell for leather. He also makes me reflect on the things I've gotten done which is great. Like you say, you wouldn't let one of your friends talk to themselves the way fear makes us consider ourselves. That really rang true with me. Thanks for sharing

  • PS did you go for the beans on toast? Or invent something?!!

I am combating the fear by counting my old sealed pot money to take to the bank tomorrow.

    Dinner was a mixed bag.

I had some (value) mozzarella cheese which was out of date and an avocado which was ripening (4 for 99p in Morries on Friday) so I had that and then I made a mistake of eating a microwave meal. Which was fairly vile.

I have 12 cans of beans and 6 cans of spaghetti. But not that keen on either really!

Can't believe I went to M's on Friday (!) and have to go back tomorrow (to Mr S - points) as I didn't buy essentials like milk and marshmallows.

    Must make a list.
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • I love how marshmallows fall into the essential category ;)

PS any excuse for a bit of '80's power ballad-ry. In fact, what do you ladies reckon? Frugal '14 thread for inspirational songs...this diary for pure '80's cheese??

LOVE this!! Little Miss Gap just rolls her eyes when I start singing along to this kind of stuff. She just doesn't get it :(

Don't let The Fear take hold. Douse it out like you would fire, before it catches and spreads. Make sure you rule it, rather than the other way round. Take the Anti-Fear medication when you feel it creeping. Deep breaths, check cupboards/fridge/freezer, relax when you realise it will actually be fine.

Buffy, you can freeze mozzarella and avocado. The mozzarella freezes nicely in its little bag of juice and defrosts ok too. I have only tried it once but it was fine then. When the avocado defrosts it is a bit mushy but is fine for guacamole or, how I like it, mashed with a touch of salt, a good amount of pepper and a splash or two of lime juice. Yum.
(My granny used to freeze marshmallows too. Not sure why, think it was because she was diabetic and wasn't supposed to have them and they lasted a bit longer in her mouth when they were frozen so saved her from stuffing loads in. It was fun when we were kids!)

Many hair products promising to either volumise by tresses OR, when that became to power ballad scary, to straighten it into sleekness.
