VW Polo or Ford Fiesta?

So, I've been told this morning that my insurers consider my car to be uneconomical to repair (which, in fairness, is probably right!) so I am going to have to buy something to replace it, in a hurry.
I was something small, economical and reliable. Most of my driving is fairly short commutes so I'm assuming petrol is better than diesel.
The insurers will pay at least £1,650 (I think that is slightly low, and am trying to see if I can get them to up it a bit)
I can add to that so am looking in the £2,500 range.
It looks as though, for that sort of money, I could get a 2006 Ford Fiesta or a 2006 VW Polo and would welcome any advice about which to go for (or whether there is something similar which I haven't considered)
In each case i'm looking at the 1.2l model.
I'd welcome any input you can offer.
Thanks

I'd probably go for the fiesta, but you have two good choices there, so test drive them both and buy the one you like best

thanks. What would make you pick the fiesta over the polo?0

With that budget I'd pick neither and go for something Japanese like a Yaris or a Swift.0

Polo. I bought a Fiesta (previous 2 cars were old corsa's) and thought it was ok but I wasn't thrilled.
OH bought a polo. Loved it (until somebody hit us). Now has a Punto. Love it. I hate my car in comparison.
Driving wise the Polo and Punto are by far lighter and more nippy. Better on the fuel but thats just my personal choice. I miss my corsa :-(I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
I've got the 05 plate Polo 1.2, bought it just before it was 3 years old.
Been a great little motor - I've done 80k in it and can't fault it at all.
Yaris is also a good call.I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -
Depends on the condition of the cars (mileage, any rust started yet, history, etc) but for resale value you might find the Polo easier to shift due to the old wives tale that a VW will last forever because it's German *rolls eyes*Hi. I have a 99 Fiesta which is not particularly well looked after and all it has needed in over two years is 2 new tyres and replacing the brushes on the suspension (??) Cheap and very reliable. I get about 40mpg but I guess a newer one that you can afford would be better. Autotrader website will give you the figures.

Thanks, all. I've been looking on autotrader. For the price, it looks as though a Yaris would be a 2002-2003 rather than 2006-7 for a Fiesta or Polo. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
