Job Centre checking on interview?

My nephew has been claiming JSA for a short time. He had an interview last week but unfortunately he didn't get the job. His advisor at the job centre asked if he knew why he didn't get it and when he said no they said they will ring and ask.

Are they allowed to do this and if so is it something they do very often?

Didn't your nephew ring back and ask for feedback from the interview, I would imagine it is allowed by the dwp to ring the employer. But your nephew should be doing it himself.

I wouls also think that if your nephew supplies the details of the company as in his jobseekers agreement then the jobcentre theoretically can contact the employer.

yes they can do this if he gives them the info. IF he don't they will probably want to know what he s hiding.

Yes. Any details of jobs applied for/interviews etc have to be 'checkable' and what better way to check than contact the employer.

I've never had anything I've put down on my JSAg checked so I wouldn't say it is something done very often, but there's always the possibilty it will be checked - not that that's a problem.

Under these circumstances, if the advisor had asked if they could ring and find out why I hadn't got the job, I would have said...'please do :D' (and wouldn't expect them to bother)
  • If he hadnt asked for feedback how did he know if he didn't get the job?

I would be very wary of allowing the DWP to contact them as for some types of roles, I wouldn't want the interviewer to know I was claiming benefit. Also, not being privy to the conversation between the interviewer and dwp strikes me with fear.

Yes, it is unacceptable to allow contact.

:T:D;) and don't forget to add "....and do come back and tell me what the employer said...because I felt I was suitable for that job...and I'd like to know why they didn't...." Followed by "....and if you know of a way to get them to give me the job after all I'd be interested to hear it....".

I would have loved to know just what some interviewers would have had to say as to why they didn't give me jobs that I felt should have been mine. The most interesting one would have been where the interviewer wanted to select a woman he fancied personally and I obviously didn't fit the bill (or else I DID fit the bill, but he decided I wouldn't be up for an extramarital affair with him:rotfl:). It took me ages after that interview to find out the real reason why I didn't get that particular job:rotfl:

...and then there was the job interview for another job I was perfectly suitable for....but he knew at the interview (and I soon realised) that it was a "fake" interview (from his pov) because they'd already got an internal candidate in mind for the job.

My nephew received a phone call to say he didn't get the job but he didn't ask why.

When I haven't got job I have never asked why not - it seems rude to me.

Most vacancies now have lots of applicants so there could be many reasons why someone doesn't get offered the job.

He doesn't particularly have a problem with the job centre advisor ringing to ask why he didn't get it - it's me that thinks it seems out of order. To me it seems as though they want to check he did actually go for an interview and I would have thought the company would think it odd for them to ring and ask about it.

There must be lots of people claiming JSA who genuinely go for interviews but don't get offered a job - do the advisers seriously spend time checking up on them all?

  • I don't blame them. The amount of times I've heard employers complaining of the people sent from the job centre who just turn up at interviews, with no interest of getting a job.

Hence why no decent employers use the JC anymore.

Who said the Job Centre sent him for the job?

...and if the job centre do send you for a job you're not interested in (probably under threat of sanction), should you lie at interview and pretend you're the ideal candidate?

The Jobcentre does not send people to interviews, nor do they advertise jobs. Your statement lacks any credibility whatsoever.
