Hoping it all goes well today, such an exciting but exhausting time.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Thank you lovely folks :kisses3:
Well, that was an utterly exhausting day and despite a long nap this afternoon, I am now on my way to bed
We filled a 7.5 tonne van and have a long wheel base transit coming on Monday morning for the rest.
They only sent two men (apparently the otger two wanted to watch the football...) so in a bid to try and be done before christmas I ended up lugging quite a lot of boxes myself :erk: !!!!in exhausted now:rotfl: it still took four and a half hours!
Need to have a think about a list for tomorrow...0 -
Right. We're meeting a friend for breakfast at 10
so going to tackle a few administrative things over a cuppa first
First on the list - life insurance  never had this before, because I've never had a mortgage before :rotfl:
Done lots of reading, and apparently what I want is decreasing level cover which will just pay off what's left of the mortgage should Mr Cheery or I die
Not going to bother with mortgage payment protection insurance - I get 6 months full sick pay and 6 months half pay, which is more than the 65% of pay the insurance would pay out for a year. If I was ever made redundant, I'd get several months worth of wages anyway which again would be more than the income loss cover - which only pays out if you're actually claiming JSA and seeking work (which would be very unlikely that both of us would land up in that situation after using up 6 months of redundancy money).
So - life insurance.
*rolls up sleeves*
*rolls sleeves back down again cos it's cold*
Ready, steady, GO!0 -
Good luck with the move x0

Ay up Cheery love - I agree with you thinking ^ But just to let you know that companies (selling insurance) don't view this in the same manner. When I went for my 'Credit card protection' reclaim, the company involved disputed that my 'sick pay' terms at the time of taking out the CC, weren't 'good enough' and claimed i 'needed' the ccp.
Whilst I don't have the terms in writing, 20 years ago, I worked in the public sector, and the terms were definitely 1 year full pay, 6 months half pay and then review - as they still had compassion in those days, and it kinda depended on what your illness was. Which is why I know of several people who suffered serious forms of cancer, but kept a roof over their heads, got better and retained their jobs........
I still agree with your analysis and thinking...........And I really must get my letter into the ombudsman, as time is ticking!

Don't forget cashback on the life assurance, takes forever to pay out but was well worth it for us.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Thank you lovely ladies :kisses3:
I confess I can't be doing with cashbackI know that is completely outrageous and a dreadful admission on here
But I have always found it a bit of a faff, and right this second I have so much to do I can't add anything to the faff
I WILL get my act together at some point on this, but not the day before I move house
*hits self with MSE stick*
Anyway, after MUCH faffing anyway, discovered that a joint policy would be £45 a month, and just for me would be £8.
So that's what we've gone with. The vast majority of our income at the minute is mine anyway (Mr Cheery having paid off our current house in full over the last 25 years) so it'll work out fine. I've gone for 20 years figuring we'll have paid the mortgage off a few years early... or in 20 years time there won't be that much left anyway.
Bit of a nonsense though - set everything up then accidentally clicked on something else and lost the reference number, wouldn't let me go back, and have had no confirmation email (it DID definitely say it was set up though). Office isn't open til tomorrow so that's another blithering to sort out! My own fault, but in this day and age I was expecting email confirmation, not post!
Hey ho.
Off to deal with the blithering car insurance now  Can't be doing with all this:rotfl: Suppose it's my fault for buying a new car the same week we're moving house :rotfl: Renewal quote was extortionate though so I'm hoping new policy will be more reasonable (not cheaper cos it's now two cars). Fingers crossed...

Hmm, let's class the first quote as 'something to beat'
Admiral comes in at £1159.29
Going to run a normal comparison site search for the old car and see what we get adding commuting (but parking off road)
Part of the problem is that I've always been a named driver so have no no claims bonus...
But first - breakfast0 -
Good luck with the move cheery looking forward to jarring your new adventure. What will you do all day now you don’t have solicitors to chase :rotfl:0
-
Ouchy - yes, no NCB will rather increase things.
Hopefully I'm not saying anything I shouldn't when I say that I'm very glad that you got in OK and weren't hit by any of the horrendous weather we're being threatened with on the way. (I know you're not confirmed that i here yourself yet, but bearing in mind your wobbly internet problems...!) Hopefully you now have your all weather tyres as well in case the aformentioned evil weather does decide to arrive.
Hopefully you've also managed to get proper confirmation on that life insurance now too - and you're right, I'd have assumed email confirmation as well!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
