Cheery's buttling diary: tea in one hand, plant pot in the other, running shoes on

  • Thanks Cheery :) i have lavender in a different planter so thinking something different here - though clearly i'm not sure what :rotfl: I wanted to use some of the garden soil to bulk out the compost but as i've had a lot of annoying grasses growing lately i've decided against it - they make the soil really hard to dig into.

No our council doesn't do compost - i will get a few more cheap bags i think as i am not spending too much else on plants this year - as i am hoping some kindly soul will offer me cuttings :D for any of the bits i need - other than this huge planter - maybe come coloured heather will look nice?..

I take my hat off to you and your will power at resisting the biccies :D

Hey up there what kinda colours do you like?
And how 'large is tub/ how tall do you want things to grow.
Do u want any edibles (like a mini herb garden mixed in?
    How windy is your patch
    Is the tub in sun/shade?
Do you get a lot of frosts?

Heathers are ace but are acid loving so need a slightly special type of (expensive) compost called ericaceous, but they'll also limit you to growing other peat loving plants.

Happy to help suggest things that will be low maintenance if ya like.

Interfering with other folks gardens is one of my day jobs.

    :rotfl:

(waves to cheery) well done on the biscuits as you know I can't have them in the house, I ate so many at uni I went up a shoe size:eek:
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

That's impressive biscuit eating pippi :D

I was hoping you'd pop in with gardening advice - I really wasn't doing very well :o :rotfl:

So NOT a NSD today... :o Was actually in the office for the first day in yonks so had to sign boss's leaving card so £3 shoved in the pot there.

And I offered at the weekend to pay for my sister's marathon entry if she did the damn thing with me - and she's now said yes :rotfl: :rotfl: So that's another £40 I'm just about to transfer away

(worth it to not have to do it on my own though - and we had a right laugh last time!) :rotfl: And it's both her birthday AND christmas presents so I can technically say I've started my Christmas shopping already :D:D:D :rotfl:

Good day at work - started talking about what we can do to reduce the amount of work-related travelling I'm doing at the minute - although somehow that seemed to involve me volunteering to work 5 days a week instead of 4 for a while  (long story, and I've only said I'll CONSIDER it, and it'd only be for a couple of months!)

While there's no way I'd do full time permanently, I can handle it for a couple of months, and it'd be an extra few hundred quid which is always nice :D

Just trying to figure out if I can make it October and November rather than July and August... :rotfl:

Right - must go and do some dosh shuffling! (oh, and find a blithering hotel for this blithering triathlon! Going to be an expensive evening (although hotel has a budget to come out of thank goodness!)

Right - transferred £46 to sister for the marathon

Also done some shuffling - my nifty new spreadsheet tells me the bank would go overdrawn if I didn't in do it in the next day or two

Still - put in an expenses claim for £65 today on top of the £83 I claimed last week (which still hasn't arrived) so I'm not worrying too much.

You know what though? In the past I'd have been fretting but probably carried on spending :o Now I've become really conscious of what I'm spending on and even though I'm not managing many NSDs and most days I end up spending *something*, I've actually talked myself out of a lot of things too :rotfl:

Tomorrow might be a bit spendy - meeting a pal in town for lunch :) But I've got a voucher for free tea and cake in John Lewis so that'll take care of a little snack :rotfl: Going swimming which will be £3, and have a drink and snack packed for after that :j Might allow £5 or so for lunch, just a sandwich or something.

Need to post a teensy parcel too - probably less than £1

And I might end up getting the bus either into town or home again so that'll be £1.70 - I'll try not to do both directions!

    Payday Wednesday thank goodness!

Happy slacker-friday! (Not for me today, I was a Thursday Slacker instead this week!) If Wallflower cuttings would work for you I could send you some of those. They're purple ones, and rather nice. (If a bit straggly at the moment, but I now know how to stop that continuing so they should be in slightly more tidy form soon!)

Good work on money shuffling in the nick of time - it makes a real difference just getting into the habit of checking on things and being able to pre-empt issues before they become...errr...issues. :D

    Happy swimming/cake eating etc!

Ha! Love that reindeer starnac :D This is the earliest I've ever started Christmas shopping! :j :j

Doing Chester marathon starnac :) 6th October I think so a few months away yet :D

I'm being a Monday slacker next week EH! Right now a four day weekend feels great - but I suspect I'll regret it by next Friday :rotfl:

Spending hasn't been too bad today :j

£5.50 on tea, cake and lunch - not bad (used my John Lewis voucher for some of it :D)
£2 on a booklet for a 54 mile walk round the outskirts of the city - will be nice to do in stages while I'm marathon training :D
£2 for a little chocolate pressie for a pal who passed her driving test today (and who is making us tea tonight - lucky her! :rotfl: )
    £3 swimming

Er, that's it! :j Danger zone was after my friend went into the snooker I had an hour or so to myself before heading off to swimming - but instead of walking round the shops I sat in the library magazine reading room and read an interesting article in the TES about teaching critical thinking to young children :D

Ooh, and also put the tax refund cheque from the old car into the bank - so that's £36.66 to add to the savings pot (I'll do that when it's actually cashed - bit squeaky in there at the minute :o )

Signature updated to £166 - haven't added marathon money onto there... :o Must instigate a christmas presents fund at the start of next month and it can start in minus figures :rotfl:

Right - I'm aiming for a NSD today! :j Very unusual for me on a Saturday!

Normally we'd pop out for lunch or a mooch round the charity shops - but as it's my birthday tomorrow Mr Cheery is off on Secret Missions so I have the day to myself :D

I've got a parcel to post but it's just something I forgot to take to a friend last week - she's waited ages for it so she can wait til Monday :o:D

Returned library books yesterday so no need to venture down there (it's surrounded by tempting charity shops) :j

We don't have yogurts but we do have plenty of food and even some banananas so no need to go out for that :j

I was considering going swimming... but I went yesterday and my arms still ache so I think I'll save it til Monday :o Also must take advantage of the council gym's easter egg offer thing - take in an egg and they give you a week's free membership :j :j I like being a member of the council gym but where I live now it's not worth it as I always end up paying £1.70 to get home on the bus, which makes it an extortionate cost :o Although just realised they have four sites and one is closer to me and with free parking (it's still more expensive than local university gym though).

Anyway, a week's free membership will save me £6 on swimming at the other place for a week - for the price of a reduced easter egg :D

So a day of decluttering and dusting and pottering in the garden I think :j Sun's coming out so I might trot off for a bike ride at some point - free exercise :)

Oh, and I need to sort out our house phone/internet deal - yawn yawn yawn

Gosh I am SUCH a plonker sometimes!

Paid a car tax refund cheque in yesterday (for £36.66), was waiting til it cashed to transfer to savings account and update sugnature.

Showing on available balance today so transferred to savings, and came in all excited to update signature which would take it to over £1000 paid into savings account :j

Got mildly suspicious at the 66p at the end of this month's figure so checked account - only to find I'd already transferred it at the beginning of the month when I found out how much was on its way! :rotfl:

This is GOOD because it means that £36.66 can now sit in the current account :j :j

But BAD because it means I can't add it on to my signature amount, which I was very much looking forward to doing :rotfl:

Good luck on your NSD. I'm sure you can do it! Staying in on a Saturday is the new going out I hear ;)

Happy birthday for tomorrow in case I forget. Secret Missions do sound exciting :j
