Cheery's buttling diary: tea in one hand, plant pot in the other, running shoes on

Hi Cheery! (Hi Mila! From the OS threads
).
That spice mix sounds deliriously wonderful, Cheery, to actually be made up in the shop. When I'm a bit more used to being retired, I'm going to have a hunt around in Crawley, which I think has a sizeable community that pays attention to such things. As well as a TK Maxx and a two storey Wilko2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Posh curry mix. Yum!
Hi Karmacat! I'm retired from raising kidsDH from teaching/coaching. It's a great time in our lives.
We are going out of town to a high school football (American) tonight. We will go early and look for a stove at a going out of business furniture sale there. I want a gas stove and will have to have the gas plumbed and my cabinets remodeled to make it work. I currently just have a stove top in the counter and a double oven in the cabinets...old as the hills! Vent doesn't work. Oven is very moody.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Ooh, good luck Mila!
Good luck on your spice hunting KCIt wasn't the kind of thing I'd usually buy I confess, and it was rather expensive (£5 for one meal's worth, although that's far cheaper than a takeaway!) But it's always fun hunting
I disovered today that the rather exciting Asian shop across town has opened a branch much nearer to me :j :j Most exciting. They do lovely bread, and excellent baklava :j :j
Bit of a frustrating day here. Had a nice hour or so in the garden this morning, got some more weeding and pruning done :j then it started raining, and since then I've been trying to get phone fixed (ended up buying a 'new' (to me) on online - most vexing! ) Mr Cheery has been trying to fix the broken bath tap (which has been broken since before I moved in, so over 10 years  ) so the water has been off all afternoon - spotted the nice old man across the road earlier and asked him to fill up the kettle:rotfl:
Just dashed to the DIY shop to get the right bit so Mr cheery is now on the case fixing again, and hopefully we will have water again before he goes out in an hour  Fingers crossed (and legs crossed too - we can't flush the loo! :rotfl: )
Feel like I've done *nothing* productive today, just chased my tail. Have brought some clothes down and cleared space in the attic I suppose, which means I can start moving stuff from the bedroom upstairs. And I bought some tile edging, so I'll be able to tile the bathroom windowsill in the morning. Tis all about preparation today.
And in a bit I'm off to a party :j Wanted to go early but it all got complicated so I'm going this evening instead
Just remembered Mr Cheery is visiting family tomorrow so I'll have the house to myself and no car to head off on distracting errands :rotfl: Much sorting and painting I think! :j :j0 -
I like the sound of the new Asian shop but they're making baklava? Do they put 5 spice in it to make it Asian? :rotfl::rotfl:
Prep days are good and needed. Parties are imperative!
We didn't buy a stove but got a fantastic stove vent, a Kitchenaid vent hood and they gave it to us at $5 over their cost because we have had such trouble with the electronics on a reclining sofa we bought from them. The owner felt bad.
When I looked it up online it sells for $1100 that we paid $425 for it yesterday. I'm so thrilled! (They are still ordering parts to try and fix the sofa recliner):T
Have a wonderful time tonight!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Gosh that's a right bargain Mila! :money: What a find! :j :j
Ooh, maybe I'm wrong about the shop thenWouldn't be the first time
Turkish then? Actually, I think they brand themselves as 'international' which would just about cover everything
:rotfl:
Had a lovely day yesterday doing diploma work, and a bit of painting :j Got up early this morning as I cold hear the bin lorry, and, even after last week's conversation about being a grown up, I hadn't actually put the bins out :rotfl:
Anyway, that was well over an hour ago and they've still not made it down our street so goodness knows what they're doing  Keep hearing the lorry rumbling and sounding like it's getting closer, then it goes away again :rotfl:
Maybe I'm just imagining it
Anyway, I have done Shred day 3  and am now eating porridge and strawberries that Mr Cheery's sister sent me yesterday :j Have finished the last of the porridge so made Mr Cheery some scones for his breakfast - can't help thinking I gave myself the raw end of the deal! :rotfl:
Sun's out today so [STRIKE]once [/STRIKE] NOW the scones are out of the oven (actually, left them in a teensy bit long and they're probably a bit more crunchy than they should be) I'm off out to drink my tea in the garden :j Then a much-needed shower!

Tell me the water came back on, Cheery, and you could uncross your legs!
Bin lorries are funny, aren't they - I think they double back on themselves quite a bit, because they need to go down every single road :rotfl: sometimes ours send a man ahead to amalgamate what's in the bins, and he actually *runs* they really do stretch the pennies as far as they can ...
And you made scones before breakfast.
And you're doing Shred!!!! I'm dead impressed :cool::p2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well, I did 3 days of Shred - don't be too impressed yet
:rotfl:
Water came back on - well, we *turned* it back on, fortunately it's in our hands to turn it on and off not the whim of some faraway person! It'll only be like this until the pipes are fixed - until then we're just turning it off overnight so the very tiny small drip doesn't build into an avalanche
Bin lorry finally came today :j No idea what happened yesterday, but at least it got me out of bed :rotfl:
Having a garden-and-bathroom day today. Been outside lopping and tidying and pottering for a while, now I've come in for lunch, and while it's too hot (and Mr Cheery is out, so there's space in the bathroom), I'm going to do a spot of painting :j Then back out into the garden, then the tip and the garden centre for plants for the containers, then I'll plant all those out, make tea, and then likely collapse in an exhausted heap ready to go back to work tomorrow! :rotfl:0 -
Good grief thats a lot! To compensate, I want to hear about lots of tea and cake
:bdaycake:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well, there's been lots of tea, but I've been eating rather too much cake of late
so less of that
Slimming world this morning and I've lost a grand total of half a pound in a fortnight
better off than on - but I'm still heavier than I was in June, and I've only lost 9lbs since last September  Not exactly focusing on that right now
:rotfl:
So. Spent much of the day in the garden, and after another trip to the tip it's looking in good shape :j :j One of the advantages of having a teeny garden:rotfl: Have bought enough bedding plants/herbs/ornamental kale to fill the pots as well and hopefully have colour last into the autumn (will be slightly disappointed if we end up not selling til Feb when the garden is entirely comprised of sticks  )
Using up the final elaborate posh curry from Mr Cheery's birthday tonight. It's been soaking in yogurt etc for hours, and now apparently I have to layer it with rice and leave it for an hour - just enough time to plant the pots out then I'll be well ready to eat it :j0 -
Just wanted to pop in a say well done for weight loss and gym going-ness.
One thing I noticed when I go to the gym is that I don't lose weight but my ratio of muscle to fat goes towards the muscley end, and apparently 'muscle weighs more than fat' (I expect it does proportionately) so your denisty will change (makes sense). If you have something called a Boditrax in your gym (and you can use it - there's certain conditions and appliances which mean you can't) then I would recommend using this to track your progress.
I was getting really narked about not losing weight after being at the gym for so long (going 5 times per week doing Pilates and Aquarobics) as well as swimming and stupid woodway curve and Wattbiking. Then 'the training bloke' suggested I get on the Boditrax and 'monitor my density', it opened my eyes to how much improvement I'd made despite not losing any weight. It also shows you more than a number - for example, on my GP scales I am classed as 'morbidly obese' i.e. my BMI is over 35, however the Boditrax says I am 'solid build' because my muscle score is high.
I also had a chat with a sports scientist (at university) and he said that there will come a tipping point where I have enough muscle to start burning the fat I have in my body plus the caloires I consume, but it might take a while (and he suggested I do more cardio :rotfl:).
Hope this helps.
