Well I crossed off ONE thing last night :j :j Although then I remembered another two things that I'd forgotten to put on there :rotfl: Already going backwards and we've only just written the list! :rotfl:

Oh well :D Sun is shining, I am up and breakfasted, and I'm off to follow KC's lead out into the garden for half an hour before I get started on the painting :j I've got a garden list too (although I must print that off and get it on the wall!).

    Today's plan:

    - 30 mins in garden (bit of weeding, put woodchip down)
    - finish white paint on landing
    - top coat cream paint on landing
    - red paint on landing (it's not going to be as mad as it sounds, I promise :rotfl: ) Hoping we'll only need one coat of red as it'll be behind a book case anyway
    - re-fit two landing book shelves (metal rod things are already up, just need to plonk brackets back in the holes and put shelves on)

Er, that might be it for stuff off the list - but if I get all that done I'll be well impressed :D :j

    Also want to
    - do some washing and hang up
    - clear bedroom floor and put carpet back down and hoover
    - hoover bathroom
    - pack for work trip tomorrow (going to stay in a youth hostel for a few days with a pal from work as a bit of a 'retreat' :D Love my job :D ) :rotfl:

Right, best get cracking! Hope you're all having a cheerful one too :) If anyone's got a biscuit they want to lob over around 11am that would be much appreciated :D :rotfl:

    :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j

Went outside and it was so nice just pottering about, weeding, putting woodchip down, listening to Woman's Hour, that I ended up out there for a whole hour :j :j and have crossed one thing off my list :j :j and part way to crossing off another one :j

But then it started drizzling so I packed up and came back in - five minutes later the sun is back out but now the kettle's on so I'm going to have a quick cuppa before getting started on the painting - Mr Cheery is up now so don't have to worry about banging the ladders around :j

What a lovely start to the day! :j :j

And now I have made biscuits :D Diet? What diet? :o :rotfl: :rotfl:

SO much fancied a little sweet treat with tea and we NEVER have anything like that, so I've made some :D Did consider Twink's hobnobs but we also never have golden syrup so I went with this

    easy oat cookies

and have used almond extract instead of vanilla (cos I didn't have any), and also bunged in a load of mixed peel (cos we bought a tub for 7p weeks ago and it wasn't getting used for anything). Will report back when they're out of the oven :D

:rotfl: :rotfl: 15 mins in the oven, less than 15 mins to scoff :o (although we did save a few for afternoon snack) and then I got sidetracked painting the landing :D

Although technically I was supposed to be painting the landing, so I suppose the biscuits were the sidetracked bit :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just going to finish the last couple of walls down the stairs then I'll be able to cross another thing off the list, and I see Mr Cheery has crossed something off too :j :j :j

Ha ha - like the bit about being side-tracked...

We got side-tracked eating breakfast this morning...

    ...then side-tracked doing budgety things...

...we are back on track now doing will related things for two deceased members of OH's family...

...the paperwork is easy - OH on the otherhand is d**n difficult!

Oh dear RT, hope you got un-sidetracked eventually! :rotfl:

I've been away for a few days, and most cheerful it was too :) Less than 30 miles away, in a youth hostel that is quite familiar from my younger days and which hasn't actually changed that much :rotfl: Technically this was a working 'retreat' - a new friend from work and I just booked ourselves into a dorm for a couple of days and spent the time staring at our laptops and working, and then sitting in the sunshine having lunch, and going for a walk after tea :D

Got loads done, and it was most cheerful getting to know her :) Quite thrifty as we made all our own food (so just had a drink in the evening and an ice cream, and a celebratory late lunch after we finished today).

We enjoyed ourselves so much we're going to do it again in a few months :j :j

Home again now, and several things are pressing. Other work-related things that we ignored for a few days, but they can wait until I'm actually at work. Most pressing is my poor phone - dropped it onto a metal table leg and smashed the screen last week, a quarter of the screen went black - and then when I was away I dropped it AGAIN onto some flagstones and now HALF of the screen is black :rotfl: In order to write a decent text message I have to keep turning the screen first one way and then the other to see all the letters on the keyboard :rotfl: :rotfl:

There's a computery shop near work so I'm hoping they'll be able to fix it! I bought it second hand so if I had to replace it I'll be annoyed but at least it didn't cost a fortune (I'll replace second hand too).

    What an idiot!

Your poor phone - but that retreat sounds like a really good idea. Wasn't it crowded at this time of year? Or maybe that helped with the festive sense at the hostel itself?

  • We got back yesterday from a longish weekend in Albuquerque with DD1 and her family. DH (aka my Hunk!:j )went to the hand surgeon on Monday and yes surgery is needed. Encased ulnar nerve is making his hand wither. She will release the nerve and it will get a little better and won't continue getting worse! :j

We spent Sunday in Santa Fe at the 95th Indian Arts Festival. The word Indian (American) is now not politically correct. Native Americans (Indians) are now calling it the Indigenous Arts Festival. That name change has not been officially changed yet though. You just has to be careful who you are talking to when you say Indian Arts Festival because it's offensive to the wrong listener. :A

Babygirl (age 2 yrs) was looking for the drummers and finally we sat down to see some perform and chant. Mesmerizing. We also saw hoops dancers preform with their children. The three year old was doing a non native interpretive dance. :D. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Your days away sound inspiring and productive. Really just wonderful!

A spread sheet and a his and hers things to mark off daily list! :T:T:T
Talk about getting down to business! :)
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

That sounds interesting Mila :) love the idea of small child doing interpetive dance, that's eactly the right word :j hope DH's hand is better soon xx

Hostel was busy but not ludicrously crowded, they can sleep over 100 so there's plenty of space, and on the second night we had our 10 bed dorm to ourselves :j Most people were out all day so we were often there on our own, and had the pick of several lounge-type rooms to choose from :) All good! I quite like being surrounded by a bit of bustle, and we got some nice evening walks (and an ice cream) in too :j Definitely going to do it next year! :j

Today was quite different - misty and grey when I left for work, and when I went outside to cool down after the gym it started raining! But the gym - I'm down to £6.15 a visit now :j :j :rotfl: Hoping by the end of the year it might be about £2 a visit but I've probably got a bit of a way to go for that :rotfl: Enjoyed it though :)

Now Mr Cheery is unexpectedly home tonight, so we're making one of the posh curry mixes I bought for his birthday from here

    Posh curry mix

It was quite exciting buying them - they make up a little plastic bag full of all kinds of things from the big pots of different spices etc in the shop, and then you use that to add to whatever veg/meat/fish you like. This is a bit of a coconutty one (although we don't have coconut cream to add to it so are just using yogurt, but it does already have some coconut in), and we're just keeping it simple with potato and spinach :)
