Sounds like you're pretty much on top of it, Cheery - and you can get somewhere really nice for that, ours was lovely, and I'm sure it was that kind of money. Its all going up a bit now that the kids are more or less all on holiday, but I'm sure you'll find somewhere thats interesting and individual. Do you know where you're off to yet?

Not yet KC - kind of depends where we can find somewhere to stay at this ridiculous short notice :o :rotfl: Mind you, the ace house we went to in Orkney a couple of years ago wasn't even on the internet - we rang to try and book somewhere else, they weren't free but said 'ooh, next door (about half a mile away) is starting up as a holiday cottage but they're not ready yet, shall I ring them?' - they said yes :j :j Sadly they're properly up and running now and not free :rotfl:

Mr Cheery has apparently looked at at least 150 places in Northumbria today, none of which are free (well, not the 'nice ones' anyway) :rotfl: Ah well, we'll find something! :j

Tiredy tiredy today. Had a couple of late nights and not slept well which is unlike me. I've got the place to myself this evening and I'm currently on the sofa with blanket - was going to write a blog post but I'm not even sure I can be bothered to do that! :o Oh dear!! :rotfl:

Cheery - what's the status of that cottage, erm..... did you go there in February? The one that a colleague or friend had bought? I remember you & MrCheery were there when it snowed anyway - was it Valentines even?

I'm not thinking *freebie*, I just wondered if they had got it up and running as a rental and whether it would be an option? (discount would be nice, natch :D)

    :hello: Morning chums :)

DDFW - glad it's not just me! :rotfl: Good luck with your searching :j :j (and totting up spends... always a worrying experience! :o )

Greying, what a lovely idea, and how lovely of you for remembering! :kisses3: Yes, we did indeed go to a friend's newly-bought cottage in January in the snow but, er (and *please* don't tell my friend this), we didn't like it very much :o:o:o :rotfl: I mean it was a lovely little cottage - but it was the middle of a terrace of three, with no garden to speak of - which means neighbours and no privacy - which is exactly what we're trying to get away from :o And it was nowhere near the sea at all. So I have no idea if it's free, we wouldn't be going anyway :D

And the rental is paying the mortgage at the minute and so I wouldn't feel comfortable asking for a discount anyway :o

Good idea though :D I'll get Mr Cheery on the case again today - I want somewhere booked by the end of Friday!!

Working at home today, thank goodness. I did NOTHING last night - flaked out in front of the tv for several hours literally just *sitting* there. Most unlike me but I was exhausted! :o

Woken up to the smell of fresh bread in the bread machine at 7.30 today... drove me mad til I could drag myself out of bed about half an hour ago :rotfl:

    Well what a vexing day!

I've still not quite recovered from a couple of nights of bad sleeping (REALLY unusual for me) and today has been a bit of a drag to get through, even though I've just been working at home :o Boxes are piling up around us and we now have to turn sideways to get from the kitchen into the living room - best not eat any more cakes else I might get stuck!!

Had a look for holiday cottages and found something I liked and was actually FREE on the relevant dates (it was on an organic farm, with CHICKENS roaming about :j :j ) but Mr Cheery didn't really like it so back to the drawing board.

Didn't get half as much work done as I would have liked :o But I did meet a deadline (a few days early :j but only because I haven't got another day in the office before it's due!) and did a bit of writing, and at least *started* the thing I wanted to make decent progress on. It's a start :o

Packed a box of my own today too :D My first one :D (lots of *tubs* you understand, but these are proper cardboard packing boxes, with packing tape and labels and things). Mine was filled with books and labelled 'BOOKS - COUNTRYSIDE/HOUSEHOLD/GRANDMA' :D :rotfl: :rotfl:

I reckon we could rival the contents of the British LIbrary in here. On top of my madly labelled single box, we also have (in the kitchen), boxes of books all labelled BOOKS - then...

    - fantasy
    - life & novels
    - history
    - mind
    - poetry
    - myths and legends
    - animals and nature
    - DIY and crafts
    - biography
    - ladybird
    - Hamlyn and Observer etc

as well as non-book boxes which include things like

    - large tins
    - viable lamps (honestly, this one makes me giggle every day :rotfl: )
    - games and toy pals (soft toys - with holes cut in the top so they can breathe :rotfl: )
    - lighting
    - framed pictures and frames
    - photos and memorabilia (two of those)
    - git necks and bodies (I *know* it means 'guitar' but I'm imagining dismembered nasty people  ) :rotfl:

And that's not counting all the millions and millions of tubs in the living room  :rotfl:

Someone we haven't seen for a while popped in the other day and genuinely asked if we'd set up some kind of shipping business  :rotfl:

I'm trying to squeeze past it all with a serene look on my face but it's hard work!

Yawn - long day with LOTS of travelling and 3 hours of pointless hanging around when someone didn't turn up for a meeting

Still, we're home now and have had what is fast becoming our semi-regular Thursday night takeaway :$

Off tomorrow :j :j Booked onto a BodyPump class  with my new cheapo gym membership and am now terrified :rotfl: Seems to involves weights and lunges and the like  Sounds worse than the Shred video and lasts longer too!! :rotfl:

Thanks RT :o I know :o  But it's felt fine and they did tell me I needed to keep moving... :o

Anyway, today has been a complete fiasco :o Went for a cuppa with a friend I've not seen for weeks, but she was distracted making food the whole time and her 6 year old was there so we barely got talking at all. Then body pump class - I HATE that feeling where you don't know where you're going or what the rules are, and the receptionist was no help, had to practically drag info out of her (do I have to swipe in? Do I need a ticket? Where is the changing room? ('you want to get changed??' she said, like doing body pump classes in jeans, sandals and a woolly cardi was perfectly normal..)

Then had to go through another reception, with a similarly unhelpful (but nicer) receptionist, then the lockers wouldn't work and I had to ask some to help, then when I got to the class it'd already started and I felt like a RIGHT idiot :o:o and nearly landed up crying :o:o

Goodness me it was hard  Especially as I put too many weights on and couldn't figure out how to get them off again for a while :o  :rotfl:

Was going to go swimming afterwards but could barely move my arms and figured I might drown

Tried to buy some holiday clothes but was thwarted at every turn (no changing rooms, shop closing in 2 mins, too many people in queue) so ended up meeting Mr Cheery, finally bursting into tears and walking all the way home instead :o

Stupid neighbours making a racket and I was torn between bursting into tears (again) and going round and smacking them one but fortunately Mr Cheery went and asked them to shut up instead :o

Think I might go back to bed :o

Only cheery thing that happened was I got a reduced sandwich in Holland and Barratts for 41p :rotfl:

Ok, banks all buttled and YNAB done and for a nice change I was actually UP 35p :rotfl: No idea what happened there but who cares :money: :rotfl:

Didn't make much difference mind you, as I had to raid the car maintenance fund to make the books balance :o :rotfl: But it's still got £160 in it and another two pay days til MOT so all fine :j

This is the thing I like about YNAB. The old me would have been going 'well we're blatantly not broke, we've got over £1000 in the current account and I'll be paid again in a week'...

... whereas now I know that £160 of that is allocated for car maintenance, £600 is the holiday fund, £100 is building up for next year's car insurance, £84 is building up for next year's tv licence, £84 for house insurance, £28 for a direct debit due out at the end of the month... :rotfl:

And if I spend something now I have NOTHING left in my little spending virtual envelopes (which I have done, and which I don't), then it has to come from SOMEWHERE - I have to actually remove that number from, for example, the car maintenance pot, or the holiday pot, or the next-year's-tv-licence pot, and actually *acknowledge* that I've made that choice.

    Open, honest and transparent.

And bloody annoying sometimes :rotfl: :rotfl:
