Oh man! I need to move to your neck of the woods! I want to buy but 220k here gets you a small 2 up, 2 down and that's about it. Cerazy! That's all I'm looking for as my first home but doing it on my own means it's not looking likely anytime soon! Hence being back here (and discovering YNAB), and a real need to save up the pennies!0

Bit out of our neck of the woods Hanb, and in a not-awfully-desirable area (we watched a shifty looking bloke actually buying drugs on a Friday lunchtime in full view of the cafe on the main road...) - hence why something that big only costs that much! Where we actually live is rather more expensive - which is why we're probably going to end up moving somewhere else :rotfl:
You'll get there eventually, keep wishing and saving! :j0 -
I love that first house. A childhood friend lived in a house with two staircases. We used to love sneaking down the "servants" stairs to the kitchen, taking some snacks then sneaking back upstairs without her parents spotting us. We felt like secret agents :rotfl:Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

Morning chums :hello:
Lying in bed trying to persuade myself to get outrotfl: But reading back here I've remembered I made soap yesterday so now I'm quite excited about getting up to see if it's gone a bit more gloopy and a bit less like a pan full of soapy water... :rotfl:
Decluttering mission continues :j Mr Cheery doing the most sorting (because most of the stuff is his!) But I'm doing bits round the edges - yesterday went through a giant pile of paperwork from the cellar and came to the conclusin we don't need to keep any of it :j
Sadly we don't have a shredder and I have better things to do than cutting it into tiny bits... not sure what to do with it! Might just soak it in boiling water and squeeze into a giant mushy ball:rotfl: Wish I had a fire to burn it in! Got a storm kettle, I suppose I could do it in that :rotfl: Might even get a cup of tea out of it! :j
Today I was half planning to build a bench at the community allotment but as I didn't actually tell anyone I might wimp outPlenty to do here - might get outside for a bit, turn the compost, pot up the supermarket herbs, rebuild the mini greenhouse and get some seeds on the go :j
Then me and Mr Cheery were meant to be going for a walk this afternoon but he did something in the attic yesterday and managed to make the lights stop working so that might involve quite a bit of fiddling to sort out...
Need to prepare for this 10k race tomorrow too  Not run since Boxing Day! :rotfl:0 -
Cheery hun, I wonder if I may ask you a question to clarify something in my pea-sized brain? Feel free to ignore, and I'll happily de-post if you would rather not answer.
If someone was sole owner of a property (no charges, no mortgage company/bank involvement), but they wanted their partner put on the deeds of the property too, have I understood correctly that it is a case of dealing with the Land Registry primarily - rather than going through solicitors? The only involvement of solicitors is to confirm that individuals are who they say they are - can't remember the legal term for it, but it's a *stamp* to say Joe Bloggs is indeed Joe Bloggs.
I am asking with the view to a property being made into joint tenants, rather than tenants in common - if that makes a difference.
I've already been out this am, and the weather here is not conducive to doing any running - fun or otherwise - although it did speed up my walking! :rotfl:

No need to de-post Greying - and in fact I actually know the answer because that's *exactly* what we just did
Mr Cheery was sole owner, no mortgage/charges etc, and we added me to the deeds too, as joint tenants. We just went to the solicitor to verify our identity, as you say - took a passport photo, passport/driving licence and the land registry ID1 form, and it cost us £10 each:money:
Other than that, we just filled in forms off the internet. TF1 I believe the form was called - we had to transfer the whole property from Mr Cheery to Mr Cheery+me. Cost £60.
Ours was a tiny bit more complicated as Mr Cheery was changing his name at the same time but seems to have all gone through nicely now :j They just sent him a letter saying 'someone's tried to transfer your property - was it you? Please fill in this confirmation slip if so' :rotfl:
Give me a shout if that's not clear - I'm no expert but happy to answer questions about what we did0 -

Nope hunni, that is clear as a bell - and super helpful. Thank you so much. It's a lot less complicated a process than I though and a lot less expensive than I thought too (although if it were a solicitor-led process, we'd be talking in the £100's, no?).
Thanks, that's really valuable and is going to be really helpful to me personally.

Glad to be able to help
I had lots of help with the process myself so good to be able to pass it on!
Hmm yes, I suspect it would indeed cost £100s if it were led by solicitors... and of course you *can* go to a solicitor to discuss your joint tenancy, what would happen if one of you died etc... but we decided we were both decent people with a good track record so we'd take the risk0 -

I suppose the problem would come if there were step children involved. As in one partner dies and his children expect their share of the house etc. But a will should clear up an issue like that I would think.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000
