My 8 year old just bought a £150 app on our ipad!

its easy enough to turn off and lock in app purchases
Once I found out what happened I had 11 web pages open before I found out exactly how to stop this happening again. Registering a new apple id does not give you the option of using it without a card attached unless you know exactly which hoops to jump through. Do a google search for "removing my card from my apple id", it's a massive issue for us mere mortals out there.
BTW it wasn't an in app purchase, but as with others on this thread, your input is very helpful.Pants0 -
I wouldn't let 8 year olds download apps, free or not. Most now have in app purchases where you buy 'coins' for vast prices.
Why not? Some of the free stuff is great. On Monday I was abroad with work and we all kept in touch with Viber on the ipad and my iphone, which is free and runs over wireless, and which the kids found for me. If you're not technically savvy by 7 these days then you're left behind

I thought Apple had introduced a method where unauthorized payments would not go ahead. Maybe complain to them and they will refund you. Albeit I have my doubts, I know they recently got their knuckles rapped over it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

If you have no joy finding a phone number, try using the email contact. I have previously and they refunded £60ish worth off in app Candy Crush purchases for me, the purchases were made over a period of a week or so. They advised me to turn in app purchases off, which I did.If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me

I think that the problem is a 7Yr old is tech savvy. I would not let my Son download software without my say-so, whether or not it is free. I would not allow him the freedom to have a laptop\tablet in his bedroom, there are far too many dodgy apps or websites he could go to, even with a parental lock available. Why not? Some of the free stuff is great. On Monday I was abroad with work and we all kept in touch with Viber on the ipad and my iphone, which is free and runs over wireless, and which the kids found for me. If he wanted a particular app, I may or may not agree to it, but would not allow him to assume he can download anything he wants on there.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Edit: here's another article on this, showing how the order in which Apple displays screen prompts make it easy for this kind of thing to happen.

None of which helps the OP, I'm afraid.

so what was the app ?
It's called Proloquo2Go, it's a communication app for people who are unable to speak. My son didn't need the app, he just wanted to take a look at the app to see why it was so expensive but didn't think it would try to install, let alone charge me for it.Pants0 -
What really gets my goat up, being the parent of a disabled child. Is just how expensive apps are for disabled people. It's called Proloquo2Go, it's a communication app for people who are unable to speak.
