  • Conversation just now between me & my mum:

Me: My car tax is due so can I have the money for it from that savings account you set up for me please?
Mum: Course you can, how much is it?
    Me: £125
Mum: Well you've saved £156 in there so do you want me to keep the other £30 or do you want it?
Me: Hang on, I'm ringing the hairdressers!

  • Morning all

So, did all the mums out there have a good Mother's Day? I was spoilt rotten by Littley which was lovely. We then went to my mum's and spoilt her too. I was very impressed with myself as normally I spend too much on stuff she prob doesn't use/want/read/watch etc. So in true MSE style I made her some handscrub and put it in a jar, wrapped it in cellophane & popped a ribbon on. Total cost = aroung 50p. I then cut out the images on the cellophane as well as some of the images on the cellophane from the flowers Littley bought me, added these with some coloured tissue paper that I already had and made her a card - which turned out a lot better than I thought and not at all pre-schooly! lol

I wasn't as confident beforehand as I should have been though so I gave her some chocolates I had bought for Littley's school (who refused to take them) & a bottle of her fav plonk just in case.

Today's £6 challenge has already been met - yay! - but no walk to school money as Littley off with sickness bug :(

Have a great day everyone x

  • Hi Rainbow

That's the plan. I love my homemade stuff from Littley but she's 8 so I'm supposed to!

My mum's just popped in for a cuppa and told me that the scrub I made was so good, worked so well & was presented so lovely that she's sure if I made some more up and took them with me when I do the car boot I could probably sell them. I'll take that as a compliment!

  • Ok, so this weekend we had the great pleasure of my brother and his family come and visit and I noticed that he appeared leaner. I asked if he'd lost weight and he said that yup, he's changed location of work & now cycles there and back (6mile round trip) and the weights just fallen off him.

Whilst I'm really happy for him losing half a stone in 2 weeks I'm also being a typical big sister and am NOT happy that he's slimmer than I am now - the dirtbag! haha

So, after that and Littley's comments last week I've downloaded a step app and am going to walk back from school run the long way - I usually get a lift back from a friend. Not sure how far it is exactly so I've got 2 apps, one that counts steps and one that does distance. Will be interesting to see And I'm putting it on here so tomorrow one of you lovely lot can say, hey Sassy. How far was that walk? And I HAVE to have an answer! lol

    Have a good evening everyone :) x

  • I could seriously cry from frustration today! Got Littley up and she was still quite poorly so let her go back to sleep and thought I'd get some work done so I can spend time with her when she wakes and I'm having so many problems with my laptop it's unreal. The flippin' thing doesn't charge properly atm and now it's decided that whenever I open my emails it will lock my computer and the only way I can get it to work is to unplug it and also remove the battery. This isn't helpful, isn't helping the battery and is making me want to pull my hair out! I can't do any work as the URLs are all in the emails sent over to me and I have a meeting in an hour & a half to tell them how well I'm doing with the work I can't get too.

Realistically I need a new laptop but I can't flippin' afford one and so am losing hours trying to limp along with this one.

Also, with Littley off today I couldn't go for the walk so that's annoying and then when I rang her school I spoke to the snotty receptionist who blatantly accused me of lying.

Urgh, sorry. Ignore me. Am going to go cry then throw my laptop out the window and start again - for the umpteenth time today :(

What a frustrating morning, I would be feeling just the same! I hate it when technology plays up, or when receptionists fail to stick to their job description.

We have a house full of gadgets as DS and DH are both computer geeks, but I know DH recently picked up an old, reconditioned DELL laptop for sweeties and it works extremely well. It might be worth looking into something like that as a short term option.

It might even be worth putting an add on freecycle asking if anybody in your area has one.

I hope things are looking up x.

  • Hugs to you hun!

I hope your morning gets better.

Ignore the snotty secretary at Littley's school. You know your daughter isn't well - her opinion counts for nothing!

I hope you get your laptop sorted soon. Computer problems are incredibly frustrating. Is it an old battery that's causing it not to charge properly? A new battery may help and you may be able to pick one up on ebay for £10-£20. The locking when you open emails doesn't sound so great though - perhaps a fresh system restore to it may give it a new lease of life?

Hope your day picks up and I hope Littley feels better soon xx
  • Morning all!

Ok, so normal service has been restored! I have finally sorted out some of my laptop issues and so that is now working. I've found a new charger for £18 (incl p&p) which I shall get next week when I have a few pennies. I should be ok til then - touch wood! The software issues were resolved by changing email provider and removing that program off my laptop. Not only is my lappy not crashing any more it's actually working slightly quicker too - bonus.

However, this means I am now about 5 hours behind on what is potentially the busiest day work wise for about 3 weeks! Ah well.

Littley is feeling better but I think school may still be a bit much for her tomorrow so we're having a battle atm. She's adamant she wants to go in as it's her fave day of the week but I'm thinking she should stay back another day & get fully rested. She's still getting bad tummy cramps & is tired so nowhere near 100%. We'll see.

Anyhoo, hope you're all having a good day :) xx

  • Afternoon everyone

Well, Littley is finally back at school which is such a relief and so today I was able to get on with some more work, which in actual fact meant I went to the hairdressers instead! I was told that colour would cost me £30 or colour&foils would be £40. I opted for the £40 & didn't have a blow dry (an extra £11.95) as didn't feel the need.

When it came to it the lovely lady had a bit of spare time between appts so she actually blow dried my hair and straightened it with no charge - lovely. She then only charged me £35 for the whole lot so I was majorly happy. A total saving of £16.95.

I've also walked to school today and am walking to pick Littley up so that's another 90p into the pot. And the £6 a day challenge has also been going well, not bad considering I haven't even thought about anything moneywise since Monday. I worked out that day 14 at £6 a day means I should be hitting £84 so the fact I'm at £98.85 already is brilliant! That's already £14.85 above target so I have a couple of days grace if needed.

Not much else has happened to be honest. I've started using my steps app (measuring how I walk not singing Tragedy at the top of my voice although that could be quite fun too!) and without any extra walking today I have already done 3.6miles! And that included a lift in the middle so how!? I can only think that although everything seems so close around here it actually isn't.

    Have a nice day/evening :) x
