Just to be clear then, as your reply implies may have missed the point of my post, you are not prepared to do as Glad suggested and turn your pming on just for BGs so you can send merge request yourself?

seriously people. have a look at yourselves and think how this looks to people who , like me , might be new / relatively new and now after reading this darent really do owt to help cos so many people look like theyre keeping tabs on what other people do or dont do and are than named and shamed [or whatever you want to call it ]
if someone finds a dupe then its nice of them to say so and the best think to do if they dont want to pm for whatever reason is to say a merge is needed and for someone else to do it. whats the problem with that? perhaps that second person wouldve come along and requested the merge anyway. thus the first person has saved em a job by finding the dupe which is often the hardest part!0 -

Yep - surely that's the crux of the issue here :T :T
It's up to the individual if they wish to abstain from PMs, but I don't see the issue with changing their personal settings to allow PMs for 2 or 3 BGs only (unless as Moneybot says, one of those lovely BGs are sending naughty PMs! lol :rotfl:)
Alternatively, don't bother to post 'Dupe', but then that seems to fly against the whole 'we're in this together' philosophy I thought was part and parcel of the MSE comping community

It's just so little extra effort to send the PM if they've spotted it and posted so on the thread, and it saves the thread getting bumped again when someone DOES send the PM, and then posts to say that they've done so.
(p.s. bumping the threads doesn't bother me as I sort by the thread sort time, but I know it drives other people nuts, which is why I try to avoid doing it)Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100 -

Not at all, although I have received some about "banking" all day from another member :cool:
I choose to have pm's switched off completely, that's my choice and nobody's business but mine.
If it's a problem that I post that a comp is a dupe and add the link to stop people duping themselves then I'll stop. There really isn't a problem here
