I haven't been back here since posting the other day - looks like I kicked it off a bit

I would PM people to ask them but as already mentioned, they've switched off their PMs, so can't do that.

And, I'm sort of assuming that they'd like to be able to send merges, but not get PMs from other MSEers

I don't have a problem sending merges, I do it when I have time, but like everyone else, I usually have a zillion other things to do....

I just don't see the point in someone taking the time to post that something is a dupe, but not taking the extra few seconds (literally) to ask a BG to do the merge.

I think I can probably figure out now why some people have switched off their PMs !!

Rats - I knew I should have quoted the message before they deleted it !

no need for you to be rude :(

I've no idea what's been going on in here but I too have pm's turned off, purely a personal choice.
If pointing out that a post is a dupe and asking for a merge to be requested is an issue then I'll stop, simplez.

I thought it would be better to alert others so that they don't dupe themselves but I shall leave it for others instead :) it's no problem...

    Good luck

The whole point of the thread was to point out that you could have pms turned on just for Bgs and thus could still send merge requests without getting unwanted pms from other board members.

It wasn't to have a go at people who point out merges and don't request them.

Obviously the more people who spot dupes and report them the better as it shares out the work.

I think some people, myself included, were finding it frustrating with the number of half done jobs. I mean if you spot a dupe then also requesting the merge makes sense.

It is also frustrating when you get the following in thread

    post 2 "sorry it's here"

post 3 "have you requested a merge?"

post 4" anybody done a merge request here?"

    etc

Not posting links to examples as I'm sure whoever I chose would then take offense.

A lot of the online comps tell you if you have already entered anyway so you can't duplicate your entry only waste your time by trying to enter again.

My reasons why I have made the decision to switch off my PM's are Valid & I will not be talking about them to anyone.

I don't think I can be called Lazy though :o

I think all the other work I do around the forum Congratulating people, linking posts to all the different regular threads, answering questions if I can, Self promotion spotting & Reporting, posting comps on the board should be enough to not qualify myself as being lazy :o

No one has a right to be able to contact someone by PM, it is up to each individual person weather they want people to be able to contact them or not. Same goes with PMing people. It's up to me if I choose not to make contact with anyone on the forum or talk the hind legs off several donkey's

I'm not taking offence at all, whether others do or not is up to them.
I've posted a few in the last few days and don't mind if you list them but if it's an issue then I'll stop and leave it to someone else.

It really is no biggy :)

Just to be clear then, as your reply implies may have missed the point of my post, you are not prepared to do as Glad suggested and turn your pming on just for BGs so you can send merge request yourself?

I am beginning to suspect one of the Bgs has been sending rude pms...
