helping to bring good affordable clothes to the masses.
I appreciate your view that we should keep to topic, but this is so outrageous and close to my heart I cannot let it pass.
You say bringing good affordable clothes to the masses, I say crushing UK suppliers, dubious offshore sourcing (Ethical trade Initiative? What a laugh) and along with Primark and other bargain clothing retailers, helping to strangle the last breaths out of UK fashion.

What is it about success we hate in this country?
1) Large supermarket bullying local producers
2) "Encouraging" people to buy battery produced food filled with drugs.
3) Taking up lots of land for supermarkets and accompanying roads and encouraging extra driving (many out of town stores).
4) Bad practices with meat and fish e.g. illegally selling meat past it's "sell by" date by mincing it (undercover filmining done on this).
5) As above clothing that doesn't support the UK rag trade and possibly supports poor conditions abroad.
There are arguments on both sides with all of these points because at the end of the day it's up to people where they shop and what they buy so I guess it comes down to how you measure "sucess".
If you are a capitalist and judge sucess in terms of big bucks then I guess they are a success story.
If you're interested in the environment, healthy clean living and quality of life then perhaps Tescos hasn't enriched our environment quite as much.
After watching the undercover program on meat and fish, you could actually see tremendous value in having a local butcher.
I can't quite imagine we will all mourn the loss of Estate agents in the same way though.0 -

I agree with you (see my post above).
However I would point out that it is up to people where, when and how they shop and what they buy.
If all of us drive miles in our cars to buy rubbish meat full of drugs and produced in intensive conditions and buy clothes that are made abroad in poor conditions then we all all responsible.
Most of us do support the "bad" side of big businesses because the prices appeal to us.0 -
sorry i thought this was a money saving board not a debate on how business has to operate in the modern world. I am sick of the anti Tesco comments, if you want to make one then back it up with a justified comment.
I refer you to my post above; it's backed up and perfectly justified.
Everybody knows that farmers aren't paid enough for their products. Everyone knows that Tesco is killing smaller retailers and suppressing competition. Everyone knows that their 'affordable' clothing is unlikely to be made by ladies drinking tea in Stafford.
It's very much a Money Saving issue. Do you save money and shop at Tesco and send the profits directly to their shareholders or do you pay extra to support local business and keep the money local?
More topically, do you use the cheap EA service enabling Tesco to grow into yet another market or do you pay far more than is reasonable to an apathetic EA?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Back to topic though, if Tesco can only do half to UK Estate Agency of what they've done to our rag trade, it mightn't be such a bad thing. Its time estate agency had a reak kick up its backside.
I'm not holding my breath though.0 -
I have to agree. I don't think most people feel that estate agents offer value for what they charge so they don't fit into the same bracket as the rag trade (which wasn't well paid) or farmers (who are very hard working).0

what I find staggering is that so many people seem to think that this tesco site is a good idea, when Housenetwork.co.uk get slammed for offering a better service ( ie on RM) take amazing photos, deal with the sale for less than 500 quid, and they are NAEA.
Anyone care to explain:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Anything that puts marketing forces into play is a good idea. People can now vote with their feet and that is how it works.
British farming survived by diversifying, with the price of land at an all time high I don’t see them complaining and selling the assets. where is the rag trade? I thought that was being devastated by the labels syndrome and associated loss of market sector. Have you actually considered selling to Tesco and joining the hundreds of suppliers who are doing quite nicely out of it? Our economy is suffering from the brits attitude of it worked then why shouldn't it work now, times are changing and the consumer is at last benefiting. It is so easy to blame a big business success for failing to move with the times.
But what do I know I am only a business manager.
My point is that folks on MSN are here to save cash and get a better deal not be faced with personal views of the current business methods.

House network I will check that out? I just assumed the only option until Tesco were estate agent rip off or try and sell it yourself. Thanks.
