  • I really don't like the anti-Tesco rants I always hear, I live in a small town where Tesco has prevailed over local shops and I hear it all the tme.

What is it about success we hate in this country?

It is looking like Estate Agency as we know it is going to see massive changes as a result of Tesco entering the market, and with EAs acting the way they do nowadays that can't be a bad thing!

Maybe the EAs should fight back.

    What could they sell?

    :)

They are the death of family businesses and supress entrepeneurial spirit I guess. It's fine if you want to be an employee all your life, but for those people that want to form, build and maintain their own business, they don't help! They succeed in only making their shareholders rich - they even screw the people that supply them with products, though our own greed for cheap produce is a factor.

I do want to see a big name pushing forward the idea that you can sell your own home though. It isn't going to be something that everyone wants to do, but if it causes the average estate agent to rethink their business model and start to introducing more sensible fees upfront instead of making successful vendors pay for every timewaster or kite-flier, then that is great.

It might cause people to shop around more if they actually know what they have to pay (so many people have no idea!) and it might even cause EAs to up their game to prove what you are paying for.

Like anything else, you pays your money and takes your choice.

If you reckon your EA is worth paying £2-3k for selling your £200k house then do it. I would rather pay £200 and decorate the new place but WTFDIK.

Tesco employees do get a discounted rate
    Everybody gets clubcard points

We have just been told 2500 pounds for estate agent excluding legal fees for a 180k house sale
Tesco 49 quid plus a legal guy on top , yep my girl works for them and is helping to bring good affordable clothes to the masses.

sorry i thought this was a money saving board not a debate on how business has to operate in the modern world. I am sick of the anti Tesco comments, if you want to make one then back it up with a justified comment.

Maybe someone with experience would like to post a useful comment like telling us if it is a safe way to sell and buy, or possible problems.

There is an interesting thread about this on another forum: http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=37591

Personally I don't think Tesco's will succeed in this market, Rightmove have the power and without them Tesco will struggle to compete, and by all accounts Rightmove have told Tesco exactly where to go!
