  • Morning NAGH

The "stop faffing challenge" thread is actually titled "£20,000 (ish) by Xmas 2008", but you don't need to be aiming at that much. Others are joining with less.

It's just about really going for it this year, (and no faffing around!) so at this time next year we can all be a lot more relaxed!

  • My first update this year, gosh it has been so long since the last one. (as the actor said to the bishop).

Not much to say other than that I am enjoying the £4k year challenge (10 NSDs from 12), am a little worried about exams coming up, am definitely going to find some way to move abroad as soon as I finish my degree. I don't care that my intended career may be compromised a little by quitting the UK; if I want to be happy then I simply need to get away (and out of debt first of course).

    Hi NAGH,

I hope the exams go well for you. Where do you fancy moving to abroad? can you start building contacts now over there for when you finish your degree? Too many questions I know but I'm soooo nosey!

  • Hi skint, thanks for the exam wishes.

I am not quite sure where I want to move to, I just know that I need to get away from here. USA is not an option, is is almost impossible to achieve; I am terrified of spiders and the like but would deal with this to make it to Oz or Nz, I do have some distant family in the former. Canada looks nice too, I would have to get my French skills back though.

I love this country so much and always will, but it certainly has its bad points; sometimes it really frightens me when I see so much awful behaviour going on. I'm not blind to the fact that other countries have their problems, but I'm scared about the direction we are heading.

This is all secondary to all the bad memories I have which I do need to get away from; I appreciate that I need to deal with these too as I would still have them in another country. I am sorting these things out, but staying in the UK will mean that external triggers will always be around the next corner to upset the balance, IYSWIM.

You can ask as many questions as you want, you're not being nosey. I rather appreciate being able to talk with someone.

Right with you with the spiders there! I know a few people who've moved to oz and love it and the standard of living and pace of life seem much better than here. That said I've too many ties here to do it myself. Good luck to you though. As you already realise it's best to face up to your problems as although you can make the physical distance greater they'd still be there mentally. Hopefully by the time you do make the move you'll have dealt with them.

I would love to move to Oz but I'd need a job to go to.
  • I guess I am fortunate that I don't have many ties. I would stay though if Mr Ljungberg asked me nicely.

I have just emailed the university careers office to arrange an appointment for next week, I am going to get some specific advice about overseas career prospects...it might mean that I have to do a postgrad overseas as a way in. I ought to contact these relatives in Oz and see what their advice is too.

  • Almost another month between posts for me...I'm hardly in danger of contravening the 1000 posts per diary directive am I? :)

I am off to see a friend in a minute but I just wanted to say that I feel pretty damn good today.

Despite not getting to sleep until gone 5am and having to suffer my awful football team get a point today, I feel great. The reason for this is that I was thinking about the next 3 years, last night; I managed to draw up a reasonable plan of attack to get me the option of moving abroad. It wasn't just a financial plan, although detailing that has really made me realise that it is absolutely possible.

Will update soon. Hope you are all well.

  • Yesterday I wanted to die, today I needed to sleep.
It was not about love/sex/money/past/present/future/anything at all.
Debt didn't rear its ugly head and attempt to spit in my eye.
I didn't see his photo and shed a tear.
It was sunny, albeit slightly cold. Nice though.
Yet illness defined my face once more.

Yonder fields of France were all too evident.
    They still are.
    I dream, I work, I forget, I hope, I pray.
Let me not be there come the end of the year.
It was an opportunity missed, but that is all.
    Go forth.
