I emailed them before i looked up on here what to do. I have filled out the appeal form as i am pretty sure we were actually back at the car within the time limit but sat in there drying off out of the rain ... and have therefore confirmed my car reg, address and that i am the owner/reg keeper of the car... can i still ignore the fine? or am i screwed?

Why would you want to be trying to ignore Parking Eye? An if you've given away who was driving that wasn't the cleverest move but you will still win at POPLA stage if you just follow the POPLA info you will have seen in the NEWBIES thread you just added a post to. You must await PE's rejection letter & get a POPLA code form them first.
By the way are you related to the Popples in Brighton?!!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

wow, you don't have to be so hostile... i have never had a parking ticket in my life. I didn't know who Parking Eye was... so in the panic of possibly being charged 85 quid, i appealed.
Then before i went to sleep i just thought i would google them, and all this MSE stuff came up.
It said to ignore them, that's why.
But there was no advice as to what to do if you had already confirmed you own and drive the car... which may not have been the right thing to do, but i can't be psychic. I didn't know my rights on this before hand...
so thank you or the info you have provided, but maybe it would be kinder in future to not make newbies feel like we're idiots. We can't know this stuff unless we ask ok?
Makes we wary of asking advice on here in future if i am going to be chastised for making a possible wrong decision....0 -

However, the fact that you have submitted what is probably a fairly weak appeal to PE is a good thing. It means they will reject it without realising that you now know how to comprehensively beat them when they send you the POPLA code for further appeal. The reason you know how to beat them is that you have read the NEWBIES thread referred to, and gone on to research the winning POPLA appeal points.0 -
Sarah started off on a 2008 ParkingEye thread 'Nasty Tricks' hence she read it and presumably found it by Googling, didn't notice the date of all the ancient postings and the pleading posts at the end to stop people bumping an archive misleading thread.
Sarah it was a waste of time for you to have read that archive thread of rubbish - should have clicked to page one of the forum which the thread you were on does BEG people to do, at the end! But you have the current advice now. We were astonished you thought 'ignore' was the answer nowadays that's all, because we invest so much time in providing the right advice and haven't told people to ignore these for a year.
Sorry if my post above seemed harsh but after all, you had supposedly read the 'NEWBIES FAQs' thread...as you added a post to it!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

one problem I can see today is that the OP incorrectly posted in that very old thread with VERY out of date advice, also posted in the NEWBIES thread which should not be there at all and so I have reported those to the forum staff to get those 2 posts removed into this thread, as well as posting this thread too (so all over the place)
plus "more haste , less speed" - ie:- too many people try to sort it out in the heat of the moment , which causes them problems in the future, especially if they seek out old and out of date advice
for info to the OP , here is how it should have gone https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4873186
thread posted by OP, answers pointing at the correct thread to read, further questions and answers, advice given , the OP checks back to ensure they are doing the correct things, realise from the replies that they are making mistakes and get them corrected, then do the right things after advice from forum members, always checking back if in doubt
at no point was that OP given old or out of date advice, or old threads to read
after all, if I read a paper from 4 years ago it may say Sir David Frost is doing an interview on tv, hardly relevant now though is it ? (sorry to say , R.I.P.)0 -
Hi Sarah,
Please don't take any criticism personally, it is just that the regulars here, and Coupon-Mad in particular, put in an incredible effort to try to educate people how to deal with these fake PCNs so it can be a littlefrustrating when the effort seems to be wasted.
But anyway, your ticket is easy to quash. You did the right thing by appealing to Parking Eye, it is unfortunate that you outed yourself as driver, but as you will get the ticket cancelled anyway it won't make any difference.
PE will reject your appeal, if you have appealed based on what happened on the day they will have you labelled as a sucker who will cough up, therefore they should supply you with a POPLA code. When you get the code, it will be your Golden Ticket to getting the charge cancelled, you just need to follow the forum advice about wording your POPLA appeal to have a 100%chance of winning. It's not about what happened on the day, it's about challenging their legal right to issue such charges. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. This is a problem not unique to here. It's the same for any forum. No easy way to educate people about the way forums and searches work, either, as you don't know who needs educating until they make schoolboy errors.0 -
