Was driving in central london. Lane 1 was blocked by courior unloading. I was in lane 2. Lane 1 was filtering into lane 2.

I was in lane 2, gave way to the car in lane 1 that has progressed further down the road than me [the front of my car was probably next to his rear passenger].

Behind that car I gave way to was a bus roughly up to the B pillar on my car. So bus should slip in behind me.

The 4x4 behind me should have given way but instead it aggressively lauched forward keeping a 2ft gap behind me to stop the bus from cutting in.

thought that was unsportsman like so decided to stop and hold the 4x4 back.

There was enough room for the bus to still get into lane2 in front of me. So I rolled the window down and waved him forward. Bus drove on and cut in front of me and stuck his thumb up out the window and put his hazards on as a thank you.

Proceeded to give way to 2 more vehicles from lane 1 until 4x4 got irate and slammed his horns. I had places to go so drove away :rotfl:

probably didn't give enough information. This happened at a very slow moving road. A small road joining a main road. Traffic light lets through 2-3 cars at each green and then switches back to red for 1 minute.

So we werent really driving. Most of the time were idle.

    Thanks for that.

Was there a point to it?

There's always one pedantic smartass on the boards. Yes we were driving at 0.2mph on average. At a red light.
  • Give up the Road captain job and live life.... Simples

Deliberately holding up other drivers because they own a 4x4 will result in two things in good time.
You either do it to a unmarked BMW x5 police vehicle and they give you the book.
Or you "disrespect" someone like Kenneth Noye and end up in a body bag.

Either way, just minding your own business is the best option.
    Be happy...;)

So it's a non story then.
  • I suggest you have a look here if you want to police the streets of London for free.

thought that was unsportsman like so decided to stop and hold the 4x4 back.

And this is where you lost all sympathy.

Why is it YOUR job to decide who gets to go where, when?

I once got a call that my Gran had had a heart attack and was with the ambulance crew, about 40 miles from me, a quick stint up the motorway. I've been trained to drive at speed and am quite happy to do so, safely, and on this occasion I was quite happy to face the consequences of a ticket for the sake of getting there ASAP. So Off I set.

Of course, a couple of people took exception to me 'making progress' in the outside lane, and took it upon themselves to block me by sitting in the outside lane, aongside other traffic, meaning I simply had to drop back into lane 2 and wait for their road captain mindset to subside, before continuing on my way - at no risk to anyone.

Please think about the consequences of your actions when 'blocking' other road users. They may have excellent reason to be driving as they are, even if they don't then who are you to be their judge and jury.

I assume, of course, that your driving is above reproach, and you take any and all opportunities to enhance your own skill and expertise?

'Prejudice' and 'personalising' other drivers is a big no no. 'Oh, they've got a 4x4, they must be a !!!!!!' or 'Oh, they're a micra, gonna be doing 13 miles an hour in the NSL' - the minute you project an image or stereotype onto another vehicle, you're becoming emotionally involved in your interaction with it, which clouds judgement and leads to poor decison making.

So chill out, and deal with your own driving first and foremost. Let others make their mistakes, because next time It'll be you making them and you'd hope for a bit of foregiveness too.
