4x4 driver had queue rage, if there are two lanes, it's NOT a queue, he should have allowed the bus to "merge in turn" as per the highway code.

I once did similar to the OP, but the other way around at VERY low speed, a young lady with children in a small car, bus behind me wouldn't let her merge, he started drifting over to force her toward the central res, got to about half inch from her rear quarter, so I stopped and waved her past just before the merge point.
The thing was, she was ahead of the bus to start with, she'd just picked the wrong lane at the previous traffic lights, both lanes go straight on.

Queue rage that's a new one, but you do appear to like to invent new things. Good job it was all happening in front of you without a need to look over your shoulder else you may have caused another nasty accident.

And this is where you lost all sympathy.

Why is it YOUR job to decide who gets to go where, when?

I once got a call that my Gran had had a heart attack and was with the ambulance crew, about 40 miles from me, a quick stint up the motorway. I've been trained to drive at speed and am quite happy to do so, safely, and on this occasion I was quite happy to face the consequences of a ticket for the sake of getting there ASAP. So Off I set.

Of course, a couple of people took exception to me 'making progress' in the outside lane, and took it upon themselves to block me by sitting in the outside lane, aongside other traffic, meaning I simply had to drop back into lane 2 and wait for their road captain mindset to subside, before continuing on my way - at no risk to anyone.

Please think about the consequences of your actions when 'blocking' other road users. They may have excellent reason to be driving as they are, even if they don't then who are you to be their judge and jury.

I assume, of course, that your driving is above reproach, and you take any and all opportunities to enhance your own skill and expertise?

'Prejudice' and 'personalising' other drivers is a big no no. 'Oh, they've got a 4x4, they must be a !!!!!!' or 'Oh, they're a micra, gonna be doing 13 miles an hour in the NSL' - the minute you project an image or stereotype onto another vehicle, you're becoming emotionally involved in your interaction with it, which clouds judgement and leads to poor decison making.

So chill out, and deal with your own driving first and foremost. Let others make their mistakes, because next time It'll be you making them and you'd hope for a bit of foregiveness too.

    Yep, so true.

I also had someone block me off at around 600 yards before the outside lane of a motorway merged in to one.

That driver clearly didn't or doesn't have any consideration for anyone that might be in a genuine need or hurry.

I just hope they do that to an unmarked car one day.

Karma, what goes around comes back around!

Merge in turn is recommended its not the law. The op is a bad driver doing what he did
Never said it was - it's law in Germany and called the zipper system - it's a really good idea to do.

you said he should have given way its in the highway code.

it would have been nice for him to but not necessary

I see no issue with the OP letting the bus out. Law or Highway Code it is simply polite. Shame so many here seem to have forgotten that.

However, continuing to hold up traffic and let other cars out was wrong. That's policing the roads yourself and the 4x4 driver was right to get annoyed about it, not to mention everyone behind him.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

    It is.

The 4x4 driver should have. OP didn't need to in my opinion because I think he was ahead of the bus.
I've always said the Highway Code says 'give way to buses indicating to pull out' I've never said MUST - I know the difference.
It wouldn't have been 'nice' for the 4x4 driver to let the bus driver out - it's what he SHOULD do according to the HC. I would further suggest that since he was stopped, and not moving in a flow of traffic, that's even more reason why he should have let it out. That's londonTiger's point, and the reason he held the 4x4 driver up in the first place.
