The problem with asking someone if they are straight is that if they are gay they might wonder why anyone would think that they are straight.
:rotfl:
But I would never ask anyone if they were straight. Never have and never willSeriously though, what about insecure people who are also gay?!
Then that's a reason not to ask them if they are straightYou don't have to say "are you gay?". A better question would be "are you gay, straight or bi?" But as the assumption is normally that others are straight, the question that tends to be asked is "are you gay?".
So what would you do if they told you to mind your own f***ing business?0 -
So as I am a girl if someone said to me
Do you have a bf, the answer is no
Are you married? No
Haven't you meet the right bloke yet? No
Next question.............................
I can assure you it gets extremely tedious. No is often followed by why.
Coming out is not something gay people do once, it's something they do on a regular basis throughout life.
It shouldn't be necessary, but unfortunately it is, because the default is to assume someone is straight unless they tell you they aren't.0 -

How do you know they are straight if you don't ask?
If they said "mind your own f***ing business?" I would point out that there are less offensive ways of telling someone you'd prefer not to talk about it!0 -

But I am not gay and the answers are all no to those questions and if followed by a 'why'? Id say 'why what'?
Gay people may NEVER 'come out' to anyone and do not have to. It is in my opinion not the question you ask in the workplace. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Oh seeing not saying LOL
The answer is no
That's a good strategy for building work relationships.
I think to have a friendly relationship with co-workers there comes a point where it will come out or you lie. Be it being asked what you did at the weekend or who you going on holiday with.
If someone used gender neutral terms all the time and not going to much detail I would assume they were gay. Overly private would be second assumption. Plain rude third.0 -
