Maybe your colleague just has shocking social skills and was trying to be interested/friendly? Or they were curious and just didn't think you'd be offended by being asked.
the Op has said a couple of times now, she was trying to make him uncomfortable, he tried changing the subject but she would not let it drop.0 -
A UKIP spokeswoman said: "It is quite evident that this is not the party's belief but the councillor's own and he is more than entitled to express independent thought despite whether or not other people may deem it standard or correct."
Until the public outcry got a bit too hot for UKIP so they got rid of him.
Reminds me of that old Groucho Marx line:
"Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others."
to be fair to UKIP, the bible is full of such talk of floods and plagues, so he was not saying anything different to what some churches teach, he was just more vocal about it.0 -
Im not bothered about people having gay sex and I'm not bothered about people having whacky religious beliefs
What annoys me is that we don't ban the Bible but we ban people from holding beliefs they derive from the Bible0 -

and what's worse, some bishops get an automated right to sit in the House of Lords.0 -

Well we haven't banned Mein Kampf or Das Kapital either but we don't allow people go go around smashing the windows of Jewish businesses or randomly redistributing wealth on egalitarian principles. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

the point is, it's a double standard, if this guy is not allowed to say what he believes in, yet what he is saying is the same as what is in the bible, seems a bit daft.
I don't think tir21 was suggesting banning the Bible, but just be consistent0 -

You can justify pretty much any action you chose by quoting the bible - there's a passage for every single prejudice and insane opinion you could care to put forward.
It's in the bible that we should stone an adulterer to death, but you don't see many bats**t crazy hardline Christians chucking rocks through divorce lawyers windows do you?
There's a good bit about burning witches, yet Paul Daniels and the gitwizard David Blane have not been torched, I note with disappointment. I follow Christian Voice with interest and they are obsessed with bumsex between blokes. Maybe even more than I am and - trust me here - if someone's thinks more about gay sex than I do they are kind of "interpreting" god's word very selectively. It's one thing to not have gay sex because you read something in a magical book about it being bad (I'd be interested to know what their take on prawns and lobsters are, if they're that bothered about Leviticus - one of the more bonkers books of the bible) but to devote quite so much of one's life to worrying about what people get up to behind locked doors is very, very suspicious.0
